The IE-40 Earphones from M-Audio use Ultimate Ears technology to provide high-definition, reference-quality audio. Triple precision armatures for high, mid, and low frequencies maximize the sound field and give accurate reproduction, as well as more clarity and greater headroom typically found only in more expensive models. The patented dual-bore design provides a wide sound stage through separate canals for high and low frequencies, creating a natural mix in your ear.
The IE-40 offers a wide frequency range, allowing you to hear the deepest bass and clearest treble from any genre of music. The included universal fit kit ensures proper fit and comfort for any user, as well as maximized noise isolation, up to 26dB. The cable is designed to go behind your ears for added stability and a discrete look. A flexible attenuator/limiter is included, allowing you to reduce the signal from high-volume sources, such as an airplane sound system.

Comments about M-Audio IE-40 High-Definition Triple-Driver Reference Earphones:
I have tried the IE-40s for about a week and they presented some serious problems for my hearing. Not that these are any different than other in-ear monitos (their quality seemed to live up to their hype) but for someone like me, working in pro-audio and needing golden ears all day long, I found the in-ear monitors to be very dangerous. After about three days of use for about 3-4 hours a day, I started to get ringing in my years and some high-frequency sound sources seem to get muffled all of a sudden and after a few minutes I would regain the perception of high frequencies. A call to my audiologist prompted me to immediately discontinue their use for good. Those were the simptoms of hearing loss. I was not listening at ligh volumes either; I was merely trying to match the volume to the volume I listen to on high-quality circumaural headphones. I have listened to high quality headphones for more than 25 years with no problems and my hearing has been way above average for someone my age (so my doctor tells me). This might not seem to be a problem for younger individuals, but every one must pay the price sooner or later if we don't take care of our hearing. Pumping music straight into the ear drum without letting the God-given outer ear to chanel the sound naturally to the drum might have serious implications. Another negative - I was never able to make the IE-40s feel as comfortable as other cheaper models I have tried. Buy at your own risk!
