Comments about M-Audio Studiophile Q40 Closed-Back Dynamic Stereo Headphones:
I needed headphones for my home studio microphone so that I could preview and review voice-over recordings on my laptop and edit video. These were what I purchased, and I can't say enough about them!
I heard a lot of hub-bub about how these were a little uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time, but to speak with candor I didn't notice this at all! Clear and crisp sound quality, comfortable, and well-made. The 3.5mm cord that comes with the headphones is lengthy too, which is nice if you have a set-up where your cables have to travel a little distance to the port. 5/5 stars

Product is used in a post-production facility. Great quality reproduction, but ear pieces are relatively tight to head which creates fatigue after wearing for a significant amount of time.

Very good sound in my home studio. Works as intended. I like the removeable full size plugs.
Are a tad uncomfortable after wearing a long period of time. I am used to wearing aviation headsets for extended periods without discomfort, but at many times the price.
For my use, they work well.

Excellent sound quality! Deep undulating BASS and crystal clear HIGHS! Keeping in mind garbage in, Garbage out, sound reproduction in these headphones are precise! External noise cancellation is directly proportional to the volume levels of the music. Paired with an Ipod, these headphones are simply phenominal!!!
The cord has Mini 1/8 connectors at both ends that have threads that allow them to be screwed on to a 1/4 connector. Gold plated tip help eliminate corrosion. Both headphone cans fold into the headband for compact storage and the accompanying case is a nice touch! I love it!
I'm happy I bought these and thinking about buying another pair! I can't say enough about how HUGE the sound is in these things! SIMPLY AMAZING!!!

These are a great value. For the money I don't think you can do better. You could probably get better performance from some other manufacturer but you would pay way more. The highs and mids are good and the bass is fantastic. Although it's the performance that really matters I have to give high marks on the looks, very professional. One negative may be they are little tight on the head but that either seems to go away after a while or I just got used to it.

Okay here's my story: I have had these for a few weeks now. I primarily use them with my iPod/Pad. They are my first real headphones so for me they are a huge sonic upgrade. To me the sound is very balanced. With my other stereo equipment (hk soundsticks 2 and rokit 5's) I often use the EQ to make the sound just right. No need to with these. I'm no headphones expert but to me the sound quality is as good as I had hoped (that part gets 5 stars). They do squeeze your head a bit. This is great for me actually as I often use them to tune out when I'm in the same room as someone else watching tv etc and it gives them great outside sound cancellation without having actual "noise cancellation technology". However, for extended listening- after an hour or two that squeezing on my head and ears does get fatiguing and I need to take them off for a while. It's a trade off that suits my needs. If I lived alone and didn't need to block out so much noise I wouldn't like it so much. When you have these on at even a comfortable volume level you won't hear people talking to you. And you won't hear the tv on in the same room. I use these for listening to mostly house, hip hop and r&b on the iPod and Netflix movies on the iPad. The build quality overall is very good but not perfect. The one thing I would change is to make them a little sturdier at the hinge where the ear cups connect. I'm not saying it's flimsy but it would be reassuring if it was a little beefier(metal instead of plastic). I'm sure as long as I don't fall asleep with them on or sit on them they should hold up. In summary if you are an iDevice user like me you can't go wrong. Sound quality amazing build quality very good but with a beefier hinge I would give 5 stars.

I mix classic dance music on my computer (DJ sets) and these headphones really give me an idea of the how the levels need to be adjusted. The low frequency response is really good.
Make my ears and head tired quickly because they are tight but good for outside noise reduction (eg. air conditioner)

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile Q40 Closed-Back Dynamic Stereo Headphones:
I Bought these for location audio and audio post mastering. They are closed back and offer a decent level of sound isolation when shooting or working in noisy environments.
They are solidly constructed and fold nicely into the included bag. The detachable cord is a really nice touch, although I have read some reviews that say M-Audio wasn't producing replacement cables, yet when I checked their website they have them in stock.
I won't say they are the best or completely neutral bias because it is highly subjective. I found their sound reproduction to be very accurate and good enough for professional post audio and mixing.
On the downside, they aren't terribly comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The headband spring is quite tight.
Great sounding headphones!
