Direct Sound Headphones EX-25 Extreme Isolation Stereo Headphones
The EX-25 Extreme Isolation Headphones from Direct Sound provide great sound quality in a comfortable design that blocks out a large amount of external noise. Designed in a similar fashion to noise-isolating earmuffs, these heavy-duty headphones use custom speaker assemblies designed to protect your eardrums. The speakers reside inside closed-back earcups with thick padding that effectively reduce external noise by up to 25dB.
Ideal for use by live mixers who need to block out monitor speakers, or by drummers who need to be able to hear the mix without setting their volume at an unreasonably high level, the EX-25 is a perfect professional tool. It provides a long cable for plenty of slack. The 3.5mm mini plug and gold-plated 1/4" adapter ensure that you'll be able to listen to any consumer or professional-grade audio device.

My wife and I are musicians, both french horn players. We live in a small apartment, we use them to listen to music in the bedroom of our apartment (there is no door)while the other practices in the living room. Works pretty well when one of us is playing fortissimo! Does not cut out all sound but it is a VERY good value. The sound quality is not great but as I said, I find this to be a great value!

Nice alternative to electronic noise-canceling headphones, these passive noise isolation headphones provide more natural sound. Over-ear design. Not as comfortable to wear as some others, however. Might be worthwhile to spend a little more and go for the Sony MDR-7506, which don't isolate as much, but provide superior sound. If noise isolation is key, these are better, however, if sound quality is key, the Sony MDR-7506 can't be beat.

I bought these headphones to wear while mowing the lawn.
They make a noticeable difference, they block out much of the mower's engine and allow you to listen to music at a lower noise level. Thus protecting your hearing.
They are comfortable but a little larger than I like to wear in public.
