I'm very satisfied with with my new Brother HL-4070CDW Color Laser Printer. I did extensive research before making my decision and came to the conclusion that it was the "most bang for the buck." It was easy to set up and the output, both color and black & white, exceeds my expectations. I use this printer at home, mostly for personal stuff, but I am so pleased with its performance, that I am seriously considering purchasing another one for my office. It is louder than my old black & white HP laser printer (which gave me years of trouble-free service before it finally gave up the ghost), but the reviews all said it was a bit loud. Still, I don't find it to be too loud to keep out in the open in my computer room at home. (I was planning to put it in a closet near my desk.) The color is great! I'm looking forward to never having to buy another outrageously priced ink cartridge ever again. If the toner cartridges last only half as long as they're supposed to last, my printing costs will still go down considerably. I would have given it 4.5 stars, if that option were available. (I don't give anything 5 stars because there's always room for improvement.) I really like B & H and have bought several things from them over the past 3 years. [...]

This printer is pretty decent for the price. However if you are buying this as a wireless printer, don't bother. In wireless mode it only works with windows 7 for a few jobs than inexplicably stops working. The setup process is quite complicated and annoying as you never know if the driver was successfully installed, despite a message saying it is. In Mac OSX 10.6.3 the wireless driver is much better and works 95% of the time but can still be flakey. Bottom line, good print quality for price, bad wireless driver (almost non functional for windows 7), works fine with USB or networked.

This printer was very easy to set up and use. I am using it as a home printer -- worked great on our Christmas letter with its many colored photos. The duplex feature saves time and paper. This printer replaced a Lexmark C720.

Home use - I'm forgetful and so have to print out almost everything. I especially like the duplex feature. I used the wired networking (ethernet) connection and had no problem installing with the CD. The firmware update was painless. Buying paper was easy as I use cheap copy paper most of the time. When one wants to get into speciality papers however, it's a whole new learning experience. I ended up with Hammermill. The best part is I don't have to buy inkjet cartridges any more.

I am a casual user who appreciates good products. This printer is solid and was installed wirelessly and quickly. The quick guide missed necessary steps but the help desk was easy to reach and the support was terrific. The unit works very well. It is driven from several Windows PC's and from one Apple.

We've had this printer in our office for about three weeks. The print quality is excellent and meets all of our needs. The printer is on a wireless office network. Though I wouldn't say set up on the wireless network was easy, the instructions in the manual and on the software CD were more than sufficient to get the printer up and running. The ability to do duplex printing has been a welcome addition. The printer is a bit slow to start up and quite slow when you are using the duplex function, but it's still faster than having to reinsert the paper yourself.

I use printer for special jobs, when color and duplex are called for.
Great:
* Printer price, especially considering duplex color laser
* Ink price, though I haven't bought. Based on internet pricing, high capacity cartridges will yield copies for about 7-8 cents per, almost half of competition.
* Customer service. The unit I bought had a problem booting (saying the back door was open when it wasn't). Not only did I get through to a live person at Brother in minutes, I was talking to an engineer in half an hour.
Not So Great:
* I wouldn't call it fast, but who's in a hurry?

I needed a reliable, quick printer for black & white and color. Duplex was important to me and it's easy to turn on&off. Had some difficulty with setup but the 800 number has been very helpful. Nice to share with other computers at home through the router, but address won't stabilize, very annoying. Still need to test printing on different size paper.
