The Sony brand AD-PCM1 windscreen for the PCM-D50is a quality item, as well it should be at [$], but it functions perfectly, in fact, I wouldn't consider using the recorder outside without it, as the onboard mics are incredibly sensitive to the slightest movement of air over their surface. The PCM-D1 does look like a minaturized version of Don King's hairdo, but when it comes down to it, the thing does exactly what it's been designed to do. Another quality product from Sony.

I was very glad that B&H included this windscreen with my PCM-D50 at no charge. If I had paid[$] for this thing, I would have been really frosted (to say the least).The windscreen works fine, and all reviewers say that it is an absolute necessity. My complaint is that the cost of manufacture has got to be a dollar or less, and SONY is beating people up for [$]

you need it! The mic on pcm d-50 is so sensitive that swift movement of the unit will give you wind noise. Doesn't add noticeable coloration to sound. Fits snug.

Easy to attach and remove, very good function as a windscreen without reducing audio quality noticeably. Absolutely necessary when recording outside even in very calm winds. Not cheap (unless you get it for free with your recorder, as I did with my PCM-D50 - thanks B&H) but certainly worth it. Also looks cute.

I use this product for wind protection outdoor and indoor stealth for my PCM-D50. It works perfectly to limit any wind or movement sounds that the mics would normally pick up. There isn't anything I don't like about this product, I guess you could add some a face and some ears...make it look like a crazy mouse or something, that would be cool.

The windscreen does precisely what it is meant to do. It 'dampens' the distortion of the wind hitting the ultra-senstive microphones. It's included in the package with the SONY PCM D50.
