Comments about GS5160CDT Arca Swiss-Type Plate to Gitzo Quick Release Adapter:

Apparently it means Arca Swiss only, since I cannot get any plate by Kirk, Really Right Stuff, or Chinese off brand to slip in. I'm keeping it because I may actually acquire an Arca Swiss plate at some time in the future. There is a warning that it may not fit off-brand products. Take the warning to heart.

Comments about GS5160CDT Arca Swiss-Type Plate to Gitzo Quick Release Adapter:

This is a great idea, badly implemented. As received, it didn't fit the QR Gitzo head, and my Arca-style plates didn't fit in to it. I don't have genuine Arca plates (I use Kirk and RRS) so maybe that's the cause. To make it fit properly: 1) Use a large screwdriver at the inner "s" bend" to pry it apart (make it wider) so it will fit Arca-style plates. It will then be too wide to fit into the Gitzo head, so 2) grind about .5mm off the side (angled) surfaces so it slides easily into the Gitzo head. I did this with a power sander, Dremel tool and file. Works great now. I am surprised that a perfectionist company like Gitzo would sell a product that doesn't fit, but maybe it was designed around the genuine Arca plates, which may be slightly smaller.

Comments about GS5160CDT Arca Swiss-Type Plate to Gitzo Quick Release Adapter:

Bear with me . . . I have the Gitzo GH2780QR Center Ballhead w/Quick Release.

The plan was for me to mount the Wimberley M-8 PERPENDICULAR PLATE and the Wimberley P-5 UNIVERSAL CAMERA BODY PLATE 1/4" on my camera so I could easily switch between tripod heads.

The above adapter will fit -ON- the "M-8 plate" and it will fit -IN- the "Gitzo GH2780QR Center Ballhead". BUT!!! it will NOT fit when trying to interlock ALL THREE items. No expansion tolerance was accounted for in the machining of this part. Hence the "non-fitting" problem.

I am going to simply shave down the bevel which should allow the interlocking components to achieve cohesion. But will loose the nice black coating in the process.

                too bad.

Comments about GS5160CDT Arca Swiss-Type Plate to Gitzo Quick Release Adapter:

This adapter is a clever idea but unfortunately will only work with what appears to be a very limited and unspecified range of arca-swiss compatible plates. It will not work with Acratech plates. The problem seems to be that the side walls are cut at too acute an angle and meet the steeper wall of the plate too low down, making the combination of the plate and adapter just a fraction too wide to fit in the Gitzo clamp.
