Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed AS 1100 Watt/Second Kit
This is an Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed 1100 watt/second strobe lighting kit. The "RX" signifies the ability to be fired by a remote control handset, or computer. The "AS" indicates the power pack's ability to divide the power asymmetrically between two attached Freelite flash heads. The power selection range is 8.5 f-stops. Lower the power to 5.5 w/s, switch to slow recycle, and up to 5100 exposures can be made.
Elinchrom Ranger Speed has flash durations as short as 1/4310 second (with two "A" heads attached), ideal for sports, fashion, and theatre photography. Controls on the pack permit changing the output in 0.1 stop increments in an easy-to-read digital display.
This is a one head kit, which includes a Freelite "A" flash head, which provides an ultra-short flash duration. Also included is a 41" Varistar Umbrella and special reflector. The kit also includes a 7" grid reflector, an extra battery, multi-voltage battery charger, 16' special Elinchrom connector to PC sync cord and a hard Ranger case. While shopping around between Profoto, Broncholor and Elinchrom, I ultimately opted for Elinchrom and am completely satisfied.I already own the Ranger Quadra from Elinchrom and needed something a little more powerful and transportable. This is the perfect remedy AND I can use my Skyport system to control the strength of the light without ever having to get out from behind the camera and waste my clients' time.The power is substantial and even shot after shot. [...]. This is an incredible product and I am an Elinchhrom customer for life. I love their products.PS - The battery box and control unit are very heavy compared to the Quadra but I use it as a sandbag on a C-Stand! :)

This is a very easy kit to set up and take with you to odd locations. I shoot a lot of action sports: skateboard, snowboard, and motocross. Battery life is amazing and I haven't had to switch batteries in the middle of a shoot yet (cross the fingers) and hoping that I can stop packing the second battery soon. Bottom line, easy to use and very reliable.

I looked forward to purchasing this light for sometime. The portability and the power meets all my foreseen requirements. I have the 39" Rotalux Octa, the 53" Rotalux Octa, and now the 39" Rotalux Deep Octa, and the Ranger RX provides more than enough power for single and small groups indoors or out in direct sunlight. I have used it on multiple shoots already in the past 2 weeks and I am very pleased. I hope to purchase a second one soon.

I was using the profoto D1 250 studio kit and a big difference between the two. I wanted a battery powered system that would be able to over power the sun at some points and the great stoping seconds is superb! The kit is heavy but looks great and feels great!I had to re order due to the first order being scratched. But I hope the second one isnt scratched and I'm sure this will blow away my standards of what I expect from lighting!

This is my first battery pack outside of the VagabonII and I was amazed! I am super happy with the quality, it very easy to use, works right out of the box! This is perfect for shooting on location. I now want a second Ranger pack!
If you are not able to carry this kit.... you had better get an assistant...This kit is heavy but it is worth every dollar!
side Note: You might want to buy an extension cable because the kit as the original cable is not long enough for certain situations....

I was thinking about buying a Quadra RX for ages, but I finally decided on a Ranger. I am extremely happy about the build quality, very easy to use, perfect for on-location jobs under mid day summer sun. More power is always useful when needed. I use it with 3 canon 580EX II, works out great.
This kit is heavy but I love the heavy duty cable and battery casing. I also bought a Lowe Pro PRO ROLLER x300 CASE for this kit. it fits the battery unit and two heads perfectly.
Just to mention that you might need to buy a extension cable with the kit as the original cable is not long enough when use on a long boom pole.

Own the Ranger Quadra setup and needed additional power so I purchased this kit. Confusing part is how the skyport works - the 'Transceiver RX' which plugs into the generator, supposedly doesn't work with the new 'Speed' mode that Elinchrom has updated their other transmitters and receivers with. I imagine an update is to come. Otherwise, awesome product!

I struggled for weeks agonizing over Quadra versus Ranger RX and all the advantages/disadvantages of each. I finally decided that I wanted power to shoot outdoors no matter how bright the sun over convenience and portability of Quadra. Turns out the Ranger when held in a snappy carrying case really isn't very heavy at. At least not for a 36 year old man. And the difference between using the light as a key light rather than as a fill light (Quadra in bright light) is dramatic.
Quadra has that harsh light look to it when used as a fill. Also the cost of the adaptors to be able to use the modifiers is ridiculous. No need for this with the Ranger RX. Well recommended.

I plan to use the Elinchrom kit for location shoooting as well as in a studio. Cannot beat the B&H price on this kit. Wonderful quality of light, good power for the money. I plan to purchase another strobe soon. All the equipment is well built, I wish the case was of a different material externally but it appears to serve it purpose at least in the short term. I would have preferred something other than the plastic outer material for the price.

I use this lighting system for weddings, Modeling, & Portraits it is by far the best system that I have ever used. Easy to pack around and lots of power to this day yet I have never used full power. If you buy this systems buy the skyports wireless remotes but be carefull the ones that hook up to the power pack come off real easy. I glued a wire to them & then attached them to the power pack. The sync cable that comes with it doesn't give you a lot of room to move around. The sky Port gives you over a 100 feet to move aroumd. Also at full power you should get 250 shots per battery.

I was debating on getting self contained units/ generator powered units/ and battery powered units.... the the Ranger Speed AS covers exactly what I need. I have used it in studio/ home/ outdoors in wet weather with no problems ever.
I gave it 4 stars for the Case it comes with which is made of molded plastic and feels flimsy but does the job.
5 stars for the actual unit without a doubt.
