I'm new to photography, but my wife isn't - she's an experienced photographer. I purchased this to "help" catch up - to avoid asking her too many questions. The dvd is just great. It not only teaches you about the 40D, but also about composition. It takes you out of the automatic zone and puts you into the creative zone.
I don't have her years of experience, but this has certainly knocked some time off.

Coming from a 35mm manual SLR to a DSLR. This DVD explained allot of functions that the OEM manual left vague. Wonderful DVD to get you started with the Canon 40D.

You will be able to minimally operate the camera without this DVD. Just open, power up, and press the shutter button (like a point and shoot camera). However, the 40D camera can do a lot more but only if you know how to use it. Nature of my photography (high school sports) pushed me to learn more and now I am very glad to have had that challenge. The video was difficult to get at first but now I can go back and select the chapters I need and each time I learn more. Advanced controls give you more control of your photos. My photos were very GREATLY improved. To get better pictures, you have to know your tool!!

This training video is very well organized and it helps to demistify the use of the 40D camera. I have purchased another dvd from another manufacturer and I feel that the Blue Crane DVD is a more practical presentation of the material.
I have no regrets in purchasing this training video. I have told my friends and co-workers about it and they too agree that it helps in lowering the learning curve.

Hits the mark for cursory review of features of the 40D [and there are a TON of them!]... and reveals enough that unless you memorize the manual [unlikely] you will get something out of this DVD.
While oriented for beginners.. it offers something for most users.

I have owned the 10D, 20D, Mark 11N and now the 40D. I have used Canon cameras for apx. 15 years.
So why bother with a learning DVD???
