The 77mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Graduated Neutral Density (ND) Multi-Coated Filter from Tiffen, an industry leader in the design and production of high-end filters, features the strength of a titanium coating combined with high-end optical glass. Using their patented ColorCore technology, this rotating filter represents the highest scratch-resistant durability available. There is no need to worry about cleaning this filter since the coating protects the surface thereby maintaining the optical quality of the glass.
The ColorCore process allows Tiffen to control the color and density of their filters, and the characteristics of special effects filters with much greater accuracy than typical dyed-in-the-mass filters, which usually exhibit color and density variations. Digital HT (Hi-Trans) filters provide a low profile design (4mm thick) and titanium colored filter ring making a filter that is more compatible with today's digital cameras that have wider angle lenses. HT filters are usable on digital lenses 16mm focal length and up.
A Graduated Neutral Density Filter enables the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. Neutral Density filters are available in 1, 2, 3, or 4 stops to suit individual situations.Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed. This filter enables cloud detail to be kept correctly exposed in the picture.
Determining which graduated neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Choose the filter strength which adjusts the lighting to stay within the exposure latitude (greatest difference between bright/dark values) which still shows details in both of the digital or film medium in use.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 (2-Stop) Multi-Coated Filter:
This is a high quality piece of glass that does exactly what it's supposed to without affecting the overall image quality. I'm using the Tiffen HT grads on all of the lenses I use for landscape shots where dynamic range is a problem such as with the sky or reflections on water.

Works well with no noticeable degradation in image quality. I kind of wish it was 3 stops because 2 is not always enough especially on bright days.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 (2-Stop) Multi-Coated Filter:
I bought this with step up lenses for use with my Nikon D90. I've already found a number of excuses to put it on both my wide-angle (why I needed the 77 mm one at all) and my other lenses. The glass quality is terrific - images remain sharp and I have not experienced any color shift. I recommend this to anyone.

Just when one thinks they have every gadget they need, I noticed too many washed out skies or underexposed shadows with loss of details. This easy to use, quality filter provides another useful tool to get still and video images right in the camera.

It works best (for me) on my sunrise over the lake pics. Adds the balance one would want and keeps the glare off the water. And what a SOLID filter. No corners cut on quality. No complaints as of yet.

Great when you want sky in the shot but your fighting between its brightness and detail in shadow. It's easy to position for portrait or landscape shots and 2 stops work for most situations.

I purchased this to help me take better photos of the skies on morning, evening, and landscape shots on those tough days. I travel in England and those changeable days call for the assistance of a filter. I have much to learn to use it to its potential but I have noticed some very good results with clouds looking more texured and deep, blues are very good, and there is much less glare even shooting into the sun.
Great quality as well.

Screws on easily. Swivels easily. Very nice build - you can tell this is worth the money just by looking at it. However, your mind keeps the same opinion when you take use of this gem. The multi-coating really makes a differences versus standard glass in my opinion. Definitely helps with sunsets, landscape shots, and some others that you may not expect. Highly recommended.

I use the filter on my 28-70 mm f/2.8 Canon lens with a Canon 40D for landscape shots. I had been told that it would make a big difference, but never knew HOW BIG! No more pale, washed out skies and clouds. The filter allows for a more even exposure and the pictures finally look like actual real life! I would highly recoemmend this filter as basic gear for everyone.

Now it's so much fun to shoot into the sun light, blocking the top half with this graduated filter. More natural looking than shooting HDR. Because it's multi-coated, it's harder to clean but I've been using an alcohol swab and microfiber with no problem. Sturdy and comes with a nice case. I use it mostly with my Nikon D90 with 18-200 DX lens and a step-up ring. When I use it on my 11-16 mm Tokina wide angle lens without step-up ring, I can see the ring at 4 corners at 11 mm, but I can fix it with vignette correction.

I use this filter on a wide angle lens I use for landscape photography. In the West the skies are bright and blue, and the landscape filled with muted colors. This filter allows me to properly expose the desert while not over exposing the sky. The thin design is necessary for a wide angle lens.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 (2-Stop) Multi-Coated Filter:
Graded filter works well - darkens the sky to allow for better overall exposure. The filter itself is rotatable much as a polarizing filter is; the gradient is gradual across the middle and is not very apparent through the lens and I found myself looking at the filter itself to make sure it was in the proper position for the best photos. Worked well. Corners were cut at wide angle (14 mm on a 4/3 lens) if this was stacked on a second filter (like a UV protective filter).

Great filter in a very good case. I bought a set of stack caps to protect the ND filter and it slips right into the pouch...good fit.
Excellent quality and a great price. It really works well for landscape photography.
