The Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Inkjet Printer has been optimized for printing stunning portraits thanks to the Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 pigment ink set which includes red and orange inks to produce vibrant skin tones, and a gloss optimizer cartridge for even surface gloss on your prints, making them indistinguishable from traditionally produced portraits.
The Epson R1900 also includes innovative Radiance technology, co-developed by R.I.T., to maximize the color gamut while simultaneously optimizing print quality. Your images will exhibit reduced graininess and smoother color transitions with better consistency when displayed under virtually any lighting condition.
This powerful, wide-format printer offers incredible print media versatility with the ability to print up to 13" wide and up to 44" long. I'm a serious developing photo hobbyist. The Epson R1900 is a big step up from my all-in-one office printer (an Epson CX7800). It is important to me that the R1900 has 8 ink cartridges for my attempts to work for quality color, a 13" wide print format for gallery sized prints yet a relatively low price.
In some of the reviews I have read about this printer, the cost of ink for the printer is offered as a potentially negative factor. However, I think that those who wrote those comments don't realize that with digital photography high costs for ink, as well as for quality paper are a fact of life. The ink and paper costs with the R1900 are nearly competitive with the costs one experiences when sending their works to a good print shop on the web.
If one intends to take photography seriously, it is a must to get the printing right! Yes, I know there is a web/email route for photo sharing, but printing brings a certain sense of commitment and pride to the photographic experience that is not possible with screen media.
I personally needed to go through the learning curve of how to translate screen quality to print quality. The R1900 is a great printer for a developing photographer who wants to learn about color profiles, paper profiles and calibrating a monitor.
"Accurate Color" is a feature of this printer, but at my level of experience, it takes a lot of learning to match the printer to the monitor!
I do think that this printer uses a lot of ink, and ink replacement seems pricey, but all ink jet printers use a lot of ink for printing large sized prints. And I have yet to find any high quality ink to be low cost!
I stated above, the costs of printing at home is close to what's available from the online print houses. In some sense, I doubt home costs can ever be equal to the print shops, but you have to get the file right before you send it in, and when you're interested in producing a match with with what you see on the monitor, only a home printer can provide the necessary iterative experience.
I'm please that I bought the Epson R1900 to get me through the learning curve.

After using the Epson R1900, I fouund it to be a very capable printer. Prints look fantastic with great detail. However, trying to use other manufacturers papers proved to be a nightmare. Using Epson papers was far simpler. Also, the tiny ink cartridges is a great letdown. The printer stopped printing half way into a print job becaused a cartridge was low on ink. This happened several times and I was very, very dissapointed that Epson did not design this printer with larger ink cartridges that did'nt run out so quickly.

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Inkjet Printer:
I use this to produce printed DVD's so no printed jacket is needed. I also produce large display prints on a variety of fine art and Epson papers and get excellent color out of the box.
Ink usage is fair for these apps and the rated color life is superb! Though a newer model is available I expect that one to give similar results.
One quirk is that the roll paper option only accepts rolls with a 3 in core and the 100 foot roll I got is on a 5 inch core! I rigged a roll holder behind the printer that will work but it wasn't obvious that the roll attachment was so small!

It is a better Photo Inkjet printer than Canon PRO 9000 MARK II. And B&H really gave out a decent price when I purchased it. Anyway, if you want your photo shows the best of the performance, do not forget to get this printer back to your home!

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Inkjet Printer:
I use this product differently than most probably will — I print personalized stationery, invitations, cards, etc. and I typically use 120# matte cover paper. It has taken some practice to find the best color settings in hopes of getting a WYSIWYG result, but it's coming along. I find it best to print via PDF in Acrobat for what I'm doing. The Stylus r1900 prints small details rather well, especially small text. I'm sure it would do an even more incredible job if I were printing on a coated/glossy stock.
It's supposed to print up to 13x19 sheet but I can't seem to get it to print on 12x18 worth a darn. Even when I create a custom paper size it refuses to print. I'm sure I just have more research to do...at least that's what I'm hoping.
The ink cartridges are typical in price (about $12 each). I have done a good amount of printing but nothing at 100% coverage and some cartridges are just about ready to be replaced. I have never printed anything with a gloss coating and for some reason the gloss optimizer is just about empty...not really sure how that is.
I was able to buy this with a $200 rebate and especially because of that I have to say this printer is definitely worth the money!

I had not really put this printer to the test yet. It will take about a year before I can give it a good review.I made some prints using promaster professional paper and they came out beautifully.

For a beginning photographer this printer is great. I love all the features. For having the photography as a hobby even in home environment this printer would make a great asset. Ink could be a little bit expensive, but that's not something that one should consider when debating if they should buy this fabulous printer or not. Every $$$ is worth it. :)

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Inkjet Printer:
Sure, it prints beautifully. But the operating cost is significant over my dead R1800--and are the prints really that much better? The expensive ink cartridges are about 2/3 the size of the R1800, at the same price. It also prints faster than the R1800--but be careful of quality at the less-ink-consuming "Photo" setting. Some dark-toned photos will need "Best Photo" always.

Just returned from Tanzania and Rwanda with 3000 digital pictures. Had a number of pictures printed at our local camera shop. Duplicated many of the pictures on our new R1900 and they are exceptionally better - sharper, better color and more detailed.
We like the flexibility of printing a number of different sizes from 4X6 to 11X14 for our albums.
We like this printer so well that we ordered another unit for my wife's computer and office. It does gobble up the ink but the quality of the prints are worth it.
