I travel often and ordered the IRISCan Express 2 to bring with me on my trips, as well as having it around for quickly scanning an occasional document at home. Incidentally, I have a MacBook Pro, so my experiences are based on installation and use on that platform. It may be different on a Windows machine.
My requirements were very simple - reasonable price, simple setup, small size, and reasonable speed and quality. I was very surprised when the scanner surpassed every expectation I had! It is excellent! The price is very reasonable compared to other similar scanners on the market. The accompanying carrying pouch has the traveler in mind, and the software which included ReadIRIS (an OCR application) and CardIRIS (a business card scanning application) were very easy to install and setup -- intuitive. Hooking up the scanner on the fly is very easy, especially since I have the IRIScan Button Manager running in the background on my laptop. The Button Manager allows the scanner to scan immediately when you hook it up, insert a sheet to scan, and press a button on the IRIScan.
Perhaps I am most impressed with the ReadIRIS OCR application. What simplicity and speed! I really wasn't looking for that feature when I purchased the scanner, but decided to try it when I had a flyer that needed to be scanned into .pdf format for posting on the web. I expected to have to do a lot of cleanup work as the flyer wasn't in very good condition. The ReadIRIS did an OCR, converted it to text and reconstructed the flyer as a .pdf file, complete with the graphics on the flyer. Amazing! The scan looked better than the original -- it looked professional enough to post on the web. And all of that in about 5 minutes of work!
I am very pleased! It is one of the better technology buys I have made!

The base that the device sits on is not a very good, stable fit and if used makes inputting calibration paper awkward. Also when inserting documents the device tends to grab the original and pivot it about 5 to 10 degrees. When trying to scan photos you can't use automatic setting as it does not interpret colors or B/W accurately. But then the only way around it is to use custom setting which is not simple since you have to specify size of photo or accept default which creates a huge file for small photos --- which you then have to crop in some 3rd party software.
I guess if you need to have a small, light, easily transportable scanner and you don't mind work-arounds this product will do the job. If there was a reasonable replacement I would get it. Price is way to high for what it delivers.

Comments about IRISCan Express 2 Portable Color Sheetfeed Scanner:
Was difficult to set up. If you intend to use this scanner with a "user" account in Windows, you need an immediate driver upgrade--don't bother with the driver in the box.
After the initial setup, it works just fine.

Comments about IRISCan Express 2 Portable Color Sheetfeed Scanner:
I was going to use this product to scan my business cards since I get so many in my business but this is not the product for it. I followed all the directions and it seems more geared to work with a PC than a MAC. Images were scanned way too big and then half was in color and the other half of the image was missing. Not easily workable on a desk .

The scanner works very well on documents and business cards; photos are not scanned as detailed as originals. Easy to use, compact. Not designed for large scanning jobs. I like it for my uses, effective and good value for money.

Comments about IRISCan Express 2 Portable Color Sheetfeed Scanner:
The product is currently being used to scan 1000s of old photos into a digitized library. The ease of use and speed of the scanner makes life easy. The unit does not require batteries or charging this is a big plus. The only thing that would make the scanner even better is having a USB slot or flash card that could store the images at will for future storage on a computer.

Works as it was presented. Not the fastest and takes some care in feeding but gets the job done. I would buy it again or as a gift.

Great. Easy to use -- I am scanning watercolor stock which is fairly thick and it still works. It does have a little trouble sometimes with the thick stock, but that is not what the scanner is made for. It was a deal compared to the cost of other straight paper path scanners. Works great.

Comments about IRISCan Express 2 Portable Color Sheetfeed Scanner:
I needed a portable solution to scan different documents while travelling and stumbled across several portable sheetfed scanners. The decision to buy the IRISCan Express is easy, it does more at a fraction of the price of the others!
Easy decision for me! I also saw them at MacWorld this year and they not only have full software for PC, they also have it for Mac. How cool is that! Full OCR for Mac, full business card reading, I can't wait to get it.
