I just got this drive a few weeks ago. The setup is simple...I use it on a macbook pro and also on a desktop power mac. I am able to switch from one computer to the other with no problems at all. The drive is very quiet and I'd say its pretty compact and lightweight. I use it mainly with my laptop and will be moving it around more than any of my other drives...so hopefully it stands up to that test. All of my other externals are connected to my desktop...so this is the first drive I will be using on the go

I had another LaCie 350gb drive for 3 years. Loved it never had any problems. Got the 1tb in august, backed up the 350 to it along with some other photos. Worked great, smooth transfer etc. Plug it in today, Nov. 10, and my macbookpro nor my work powerbookG4 would recognize it, asking if I wanted to initialize it. Called LaCie, waited 12 minutes, they said it corrupted apparently but "the drive is still good." My take is this: it's like the "mob" trust is more important to us than money. Same goes here reliability is more important than "the drive still being good."
I know that's a big con, frankly I think because it's plastic it doesnt seem as tough as my metal one. Who knows. They say it's the power supply/dismounting incorrectly/etc. but I've always been cautious.
Going back to Western Digital and getting a RAID.

I purchased a 500 GB Laci about two yrs ago which I am very pleased with. With that in mind I decided to purchase this 1 TB Lacie.....I have not been disappointed. Very easy set up and very easy to transfer data (I just copy and paste the files I need to transfer).Since my computer's hard drive only holds 250 GB of space, Lacie has become an easy way to expand my hard drive and backup my data. The only con I have is that the USB 2 cable is only about 1 1/2 ft long....had to go purchase a 3 ft one.

This hard drive is really easy to set up - as long as you have USB 2.0 the transfer speeds are decent - and creating backup jobs is also easy.
Two weeks after I installed the backup my hard drive crashed. It was very simple to restore all our photos and explorer links to our new PC.
This is a high quality item, and the added security for your files is very much worth it.
Main gripe - the USB cord is kind of short. Even another 6" would make a big difference when you have to pull out your pc.

As an IT guy i use these hard drive for my clients, these drives have USB Boost technology and they have Genie Backup software that is free.
Not many vendor offer with their hard drives with a free backup software.
Easy setup and works with Mac and PC's.
Works great never had any problems with line of products.

One of the least expensive 1TB external hard drive on the market, but it is also one of the best. Sleek design is both attractive and inconspicuous. Used in conjunction with my imac's time machine back up system, it is working just great. Had a bit of trouble installing due to operating system incompatibility, but even a relative technophobe like me was able to eventually figure it out.

Love the look and function. I back up my MBP with this drive (after I've backed up my various media files to other drives). If you're running Lion you have to reformat the hard drive the old fashioned way, but that's no biggie. In fact, it might be better because you won't have a lot of other extraneous information loaded on automatically. The only thing that would make it better, of course, is a Firewire 800 port. But that's why this is so inexpensive so beggars can't be choosers. Great drive.

I've never had a problem with Lacie hard drives. The great style is welcome, but stability is more important. This drive worked out of the box and was easy to use.
Make sure you use the pre-installed "start" program to initialize the drive. Then, reformat the drive from your system to your liking.
The power switch on the back is good to ensure it is not turned on when not wanted. When you have many external drives, it is good to control this access.
The blue light that shines underneath not only easily lets you know the power is on, but also flashes when files are being transferred. An added benefit is that the light does not shine in your eyes directly.
