Shooting, this is a great little camera, with some nice features, custom white balance is nice.

-wide screen compression can be weird at times depending on your editing software.

-also, I bought the camera to use to capture tapes I shot on my GL2's and there are far more time-code breaks in the capturing process, than if i were to capture the same tape with my GL2,

-bottom line, not professional quality, but for little stuff its a great camera.

Great Value! It is a basic Camcorder but for [$]it has better features than the 3 year old Sony that I paid $400 for. Light, comfortable and easy to use. It alos has a greater zoom than I anticipated at this price. This should hold me over until I make the leap to HD.

I teach a graphic arts class and am introducing them to video. The 800 is great because it has a microphone jack and you can rig a set of headphones from the av out (with a few adapters). It uses mini DV tapes and records in wide screen. Buy a simple bracket (B & H sells one with two mounts) and the fact that it doesn't have a hot shoe isn't a problem. The bracket will add stability.

If you are looking for a cheap affordable camcorder, this is the route to go. Not to mention this thing has MICROPHONE INPUTS! I work with professional equipment everyday, with the high dollar stuff...but once we got this for my girlfriend for college, we have yet to not be satisfied.

There are a lot of complaints regarding the engine noise when using the internal microphone, and unforuntely they were true once we recieved it. HOWEVER, we bought microhones for the camcorder and use them everytime we are videotaping. They eliminate all of the noise associated with the engine, and give us a higher quality of sound.

I tested this picture quality compared to qulaity of a higher dollar camcorder used daily by myself, and this camcera puts up a tough fight. Well worth the money! Don't let it slip by you!

We use this as a compliment to our GL2s and DVC20Ps when out in the field and it is a good little camera. The compact nature is excellent and the external microphone input is a BIG bonus for doing outdoor programming in situations where you don't want to trash your more expensive cameras.

This product has worked well for me overall and I feel it is a good value.

I had a problem once during a shoot when I accidentally activated manual focus and had a very difficult time deactivating it, but I should have read the manual a bit more probably.

Excellent value - many more features than I expected or needed. My main use is family gatherings and kids events in which I do not need editing features or high definition. The unit is very compact, easy to use and produces a sharp picture with good sound. The price could not be beat.

My students use the mic input and perform field reports for the live morning show we broadcast on the school's CCTV station. They conduct interviews, tell stories, give kudos, and film events that bring life to the morning announcements. They enjoy leaving class on assignment and seeing themselves on TV the next day. They also have to write scripts around their segments, both for themselves and for the morning show class, which introduces their taped segments during the live broadcast of the show. The ZR800 is also proving to be quite durable, considering the wear and tear from four classes of TV Production, with over 100 students enrolled. I will buy these camcorders as soon as I raise the right amount for even one. I have six now, and the students are impressed with them, which makes them handle the camcorders more responsibly.

So far quality has been good, easy to use and lots of functions. But if you plan on putting it on your computer and editing, it will become annoying because it runs on tape and you can select what scene you want in it.

I needed a second camera for recording a school play. For the price this suited the bill. Not as many bells and whistles as the ZR300 but the image quality is good as well as the audio. I'm looking forward to trying an external microphone for better audio quality. If you need a basic camcorder, for the price this would be the choice to make.
