The Tamron AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical IF Macro Lens is a lightweight, compact and ultra high power zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C sized imager sensors. The focal length of this lens is equivalent to approx. 27-375mm in 35mm format. This lens offers an extreme zoom ratio of 13.9X, and is designed as the everyday "all-in-one" lens for digital SLR cameras, covering wideangle to long telephoto.
This updated version now incorporates motor built-in to the lens itself, which gives this lens the capability to auto focus with all Nikon DSLR cameras (including the D40 and D40x). In addition, as a result, focusing will be quieter and more responsive.
The lens uses an optical system specially designed for digital SLR cameras. This resulted in the sufficient compensation of aberrations, including astigmatism, compactness, thanks to downsizing of the first group, a high zoom power, and optimum optical quality.
Note! Not compatible with 35mm or digital cameras with image sensor larger than APS-C size.

I have used this lens for the last couple weeks with my new Nikon D60. So far I have only taken pictures around my house and the general area, put plan on traveling with it in the near future.
Positives: It is a great lens so far: solid construction, smooth zoom with a nice wide rubberized ring, fairly compact size, and generally lightweight. Everything feels very nice and balanced and seems to be built well. Image quality is good, without any noticeable distortion or other problems. The zoom range is amazing: 18-250 mm is good for just about any situation. Focus is almost always perfectly sharp and is possible close to subjects, both of which are always a plus.
Negatives: About focusing: occasionally it has a little trouble or takes a little longer than expected, but this is probably partially because of the camera settings and almost always happens in lower lighting situations, this is probably to be expected. Manual focus works well also. I do experience zoom creep sometimes, but not always for whatever reason. This can be somewhat irritating, but is not terrible. It is certainly not a reason to count this lens out of those you are considering buying. It is a little slow in the long end.
Verdict: It is a value that can't be beaten. I was also considering purchasing the Nikon 18-200 VR lens, which is $200 more expensive. I could not justify paying that much more with 50 less mm in the range, though VR would be nice to help reduce camera shake and make slower shutter speeds possible at the same zooms. Overall, this is a great lens. It is fairly solidly built and takes nice pictures. I have not had any problems to date and am very happy with the pictures it has taken.

I bought this lens to replace the kit lens that came with my D70s. It seemed the perfect replacement as it kept the same focal length at the wide end and extended the long end by nearly 200mm! The reviews in publications and online all gave the lens high marks. So I bought it. Bottom line I think the lens is a good buy for the money. The zoom range and decently quick auto focus make it a handy general use lens even though the focus does hunt in low light at times. But...this lens is not nearly sharp enough to satisfy me having used Nikon lenses for years. I think the soft focus is due primarily to what is described as "two hybrid aspherical lens elements" which really means a blending of glass and plastic. Plastic just doesn't seem to be photo sharp to me somehow. The lens also vignettes badly at times. Most wide angle shots, and especially those in which a polarizing filter was used, have vignetting in the corners to some degree. Photoshop helps but still. So...great lens for a do-all family lens but I wouldn't recommend it if you're serious about tack sharp images. You won't get them often with this lens.

I'm really enjoying my 18-250mm Tamron lense, I purchased through B&H Photo. The new lense replaced two (18-55mm and 70-300mm), but I wish it came with VR, but for the price of [$], it was a GREAT buy. Shoot pictures, not animals.

I needed a "do it all" lens for my new camera. This was it. It has a good wide angle, substantial telephoto and a very useful macro feature for the current close up project I was involved in. This is a great lens and just the right size.I am extremely happy with my purchase [...] thanks for a great product.

I used this lens as my only cary lens on our recent trip to Disney World. I was paired up with my Nikon D60 and SB400. All I can say is that I got some great shots on this trip, better than any I have taken before. The lens can be bit slow at times (but that could be my older camera body as well). Overall it was a GREAT lens to walk around with.

I bought my Nikon D3000 and it came with two lenses. Nice but I was switching back and forth and occasionally I would leave one at home. I compared many lenses and decided on this Tamron 18-250. I couldn't be happier! The motor drive is virtually silent and the focus is quick and sharp. At only 3 1/2 inches long it's light and easy to carry. It's a full 1 1/4 inches shorter than the 55-200 that came with the camera. Works great in low light too. Now I can switch from wide angel scenic shots to a really tight 250mm telephoto and not miss anything while changing lenses. Great field of view and crystal clear. I'm really impressed with this lens and doubt that I'll be carrying anything else in my bag. And, I comes with a "free" 62MM skykight 1A filter. WOW, what a deal![...] Great product, great price[...] It don't get no better!

I bought this lens for my wife's D40x so she wouldn't have to carry the two lenses that came with the camera. (18-50, 50-200) I think she will definitely use her camera more now. I tested this lens when I received it because I read that the internal focus on the Nikon version is noticeably slower than Nikon stock lenses. I did notice a difference but only because I was looking for it. The difference is in milliseconds so it's not a big deal. The lens is very compact and comfortable. I have not noticed anything negative about this camera at this time.

Got this item for my wife as a single-lens solution for her when we hike in the desert southwest. Compact and lightweight, very versatile, but with the limitations you might expect: plastic built, vignetting at long focal lengths, not as sharp as Nikkors, slowish focus.

I use a Nikon D90 and D60. I have a Tamron 18-270 VC but I wanted a smaller lighter superzoom for the D60. The Tamron 18-250 Di II fit the bill perfectly. It's sharp, relatively compact and light weight for its zoom range, well made, and a very good value. If you are looking for a superzoom without stabilization, this is a very good choice.

I bought this lens after borrowing a friends 18-270mm Tamran. The price difference for this lens made it an easy decision to take a slight step down, and for me, as an occasional photographer, I haven't noticed a difference.
I use it with a D40, and it takes excellent pictures, the wide range of this lens makes it the only one I carry - I replaced my Nikon 18-55mm and 55-200mm with this single lens.
Would highly recommend it for anyone that wants a versatile lens to carry around with their camera.

Though I am a beginner in the DSLR world, I have been using point and shoots for a while, and used a Nikon P90 point and shoot which had an extremely large zoom.Looking for better picture quality, I recently bought an entry level DSLR and just wasn't getting the zoom I was used to with the old camera.Bought this lens to use with my Nikon D3000.Was cheap to buy but gets the job done, gives me enough zoom and does NOT feel cheaply made. The lens works well with the camera and autofocuses as it should. When the lens is at maximum zoom it is easy to get movement in the shot, so be sure to use a tripod to reduce camera shake. There is no vibration reduction (VR) on this lens.Zoom equivalent is about 14x.Includes a lens hood and will accept 62mm filters.

Comments about Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Asph. IF Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon Digital SLR:
This is not only my first lens from Tamron, but my first non-Nikon lens. So needless to say, I was a bit curious to see how it'd compare. If you want to know specifics on performance, you can google some really good breakdowns and reviews, which, from all that I read, are very accurate. This is not the best lens for everything, or best through all of it's range, but neither is any zoom lens. The overall quality of my lens is excellent. It's extremely sharp and full of contrast all over it's range. I feel the low end performs better than my 18-55mm kit lens on my D3000 - It's faster through the range, but still suffers from some of what my kit lens does; barrel distortion is noticeable very wide, as is vignetting in the low end. Pincushioning is present basically from around 30mm up, but, I don't find any of this to be a dealbreaker. All of these are easily tolerable or correctable, so for me it's not a big issue. You're going to have to make some compromises with such a massive focal range, and I feel the biggest let down in that respect is that it's so slow at the higher end. It's manageable, but faster is always a nicer option. In this respect it's only a bit slower than my 55-200mm Nikon lens, but this doesn't have any vibration reduction which is the Nikon's true trump card. If this is in issue, I'd seriously consider the Tamron 18-270, which has vibration reduction, for about double the price.
My only concern is that I've noticed a speckle or two of dust in between the various elements. Which always raises the question "how did that get there?" It doesn't seem to have any effect on photos. If you're looking that hard at the photo, I'm sure you'd find hot pixels WAY before you found any distortion caused by it.
Bottom line, you can't buy much in the means of new glass for under $350 these days, but I have to say, with that being said, you're doing just that; buying a lot.

Comments about Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Asph. IF Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon Digital SLR:
Bought this lens a couple of weeks ago and was very excited at first. As I used it though, I found some things that I got me a little disappointed. Here are some of the things I've observed so far.
The good: This lens is good for shooting outdoor shots on good lighting conditions.Plus, it's very compact and light considering the focal range it packs. It's a little quiet too, which is good.
The bad: The images are not as sharp as I expect them to be. I used a nikon lens before and the difference is significant. Comparing both shots I took from similar angles, one could really see that when zoomed, the edging around the subject from the picture I took using Tamron is a little jagged compared to the one taken using Nikon(same settings). Lens creep also occurs from time to time, and vignetting occurs on lower focal lengths. These are a bit minor though.
All in all, I think for it's price, it's rather good. Not great though. It may be a good one-size-fits-all lens. It's just not sharp enough for my preference.
