Comments about Sony DCR-HC28 Mini DV Camcorder:
I love this camera! It does turn on quickly which is a must! I like the touch screen to play and edit. I haven't hooked this up to watch the video on tv yet so I can't comment on that. It is light and very easy to use. I don't have any complaints about this camera

Comments about Sony DCR-HC28 Mini DV Camcorder:
Mini-DV seems to be going away in favor of SD and the new mpeg4 format. Got this because my current Mini-DV equipment is getting old, did not want to wait until Mini-DV becomes rare and expensive. If you have a lot of Mini-DV and want to make sure you can play and edit, plus solid camcorder performance, this is the right product.

This camera is just great and because of the Touch-display very easy to handle. Even if I'm not an expert in making videos, the videos with this camera are really good and I just can recommand this product to everybody!

Comments about Sony DCR-HC28 Mini DV Camcorder:
Camera is small, lightweight, simple to use and produces impressive video. I find it best after fading in (which you have to use the touch screen to activate) is to simply turn on the EASY button and everything is automatic. The small size of the camera at first makes it a bit tricky to keep steady but after a little practice was fine. The advantage of the smaller size allowed me to carry the camera around Disney with absolutely no problem.I would recommend purchasing the next size battery because the one included does not last long. The cameras advantages far outweigh its drawbacks. I recommend this item.

Comments about Sony DCR-HC28 Mini DV Camcorder:
It is a good Camera for the price. The picture is beautiful, it isn't 3 CCD quality, but is going to be the best you can get at this price level. The battery is okay, but does worse in cold weather than most of my cameras.

Comments about Sony DCR-HC28 Mini DV Camcorder:
Of course it's a good camcorder, it's from Sony. But, don't expect anything to rival a solid 3-chip professional camera. But, for a general purpose consumer camcorder, you can't go wrong with this one.
I own 5 of these and consider them to be my "disposable" camcorders. Under $200, good video quality, easy to use and set up. These are the cameras I strap onto vehicles or carry into burning buildings. If they get trashed, they're cheap enough to replace. But, you'd be surprised at the abuse they can take. But, just like Gremlins, don't ever get them wet.
I have a Bogen Super Clamp and mini-ball head that I install these cameras onto. With that assembly and this light camera, I can clamp it anywhere, including clamping exterior onto vehicles. I've mounted these to fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, etc ... great footage.
The camera has easy to navigate touch-screen menus on the LCD. A huge selling factor for me was manual white-balance. The auto WB does a good job, but sometimes is a little blue. Nothing you can't fix in post though.
Exposure is manually controlled from the LCD touch menus also.
Unfortunately, manual focus is also controlled from the touch screen. I would have preferred a focus ring on the lens, but those are getting hard to find in consumer gear, and impossible to find at this price point.
Another thing that is missing is a microphone input. There is no way to plug in an external microphone.
Also, the included battery is tiny. Expect one MiniDV tape worth at the MOST. I purchased a 14-hour battery and solved that problem.
If you can live with those minor limitations, then this is a great camera for your general camcorder needs.
