The Pioneer CDJ-400 DJ CD Player delivers an array of professional features that offer home, mobile and professional DJs the flexibility needed to handle just about any set. The CDJ-400 is a professional CD player that supports CD, CD-R and CD-RW formats.
Pioneer was the first to feature the scratch jog wheel and of course it's provided on the CDJ-400. A USB port also allows DJs with mass storage devices, such as iPods and thumb-drives, the ability to connect to the CDJ-400 and mix their MP3 files. The player also features PC mode, which allows DJ software such as Serato Scratch Live and Pioneer DJS to be controlled.
For example, the software's pitch and platter controls may be accessed and manipulated with the CD-400's pitch and platter controls. The CDJ-400 is a cost-effective, yet flexible CD player for professionals and enthusiast DJs alike.

Comments about Pioneer CDJ-400 CD and MP3 Player with USB for DJs:
Okay, this is the cdj400. This is NOT a cdj2000, and it is NOT a turntable. Coming in at an entry level professional price, the first thing that I had to understand when purchasing it was that it was not the best I could purchase. Yet this product has shown me so much that I honestly consider it to be very undervalued.
Excellent sound quality, ease of use, reliability...These are basic qualities that every professional musician expects from investing this kind of money into their gear, and this is what you get with the 400s. Furthermore, they include a set of features that also benefits the equipment, like the six different effects that usually sound good with the music being played.
As I would like to state all the great things about this cdj, I have to say some of the negative things. One problem that I always have when using my cdj is the fact that I can't reassign buttons to whatever I want them to be. I'm a big cue points/looping user, and I mix my songs live using a lot of this. The cdj has a looping feature on it, and it works fine, but it doesn't have hot cues like the cdj2000, which has 3. This annoys me a bit, but it annoys me even more that you cannot reassign buttons to create hot cue points.
Another problem that many people seem to have with this cdj is the platter size. As I said before, this is not a turntable. Many people buy this expecting big scratches and a lot of turntable similarity, yet it is an entry level cdj, and we need to keep that in mind before buying. I personally don't use much scratching, but when I do it fits in perfectly for what I need.
Basically, this is the perfect set for me, a mainly home dj with the occasional gig here and there. I trust this machine, and I've trusted it for more than a year and its still working fine. If you need this to be your entry level cdj, you've found the right product, because this is a hidden treasure.

Comments about Pioneer CDJ-400 CD and MP3 Player with USB for DJs:
DJs love to one-up one another in the technology wars, and you will not win such a competition ordering this CD turntable, which came out a few years ago (in other words, the traditional logic goes: it's not Serato Scratch, so it must be inferior). But the important thing is that Pioneer has a reputation for building the best CD turntables, this model is affordable (in the usual "relative" sense that unfortunately typifies DJ'ing), and it handles MP3s MAGNIFICENTLY--I've experienced no discernible sound-quality difference between spinning from my thumb drive vs. a "real" CD. It's a real pleasure knowing a couple of 32 Gig thumb drives will be able to take the place of the two stacks of CDs I took to Europe earlier this year.
Complaints are 1) it does not recognize m4a's (i.e., iTunes stuff), so you'll have to convert those into MP3s, 2) I don't see how to adjust pitch (maybe I just haven't uncovered the feature [so I hope others will correct me if I am wrong], but it seems that it auto adjusts pitch to be the same at any speed without any other options, which is 90% preferable, but sometimes you want to adjust pitch for harmonic reasons), and 3) it seems the only way to scroll through your mp3s is by name--you cannot sort the list by BPM, which would be handier and once again testifies to the pleasure of having a good MP3 laptop set-up.
But enough complaining; you can probably already do all the sorting you want on your laptop anyway, and this thing handles and sounds so good. I ordered a single one in order to try it out, and was pleased enough to order the second yesterday evening, which I suppose is the ultimate endorsement.

This product is light weight, powerful, reliable, and super sleek. Pioneer has such a good reputation for a reason, because they make the best gear! My favorite feature about this unit is that it has its own sound card. Plug it in to any speaker and your good to go, no mixer required. Oh and did I mention it can also control your favorite midi DJ software? You have probably heard it before, but I will say it again. You get what you pay for!

Comments about Pioneer CDJ-400 CD and MP3 Player with USB for DJs:
I have been a DJ for over five years and have tried many different products. Pioneer really did it right with the CD-J 400. I would recommend this product to any DJ, especially those just getting into it. If I had a negative it would be the jog wheel size. Other than that it's a great piece of equipment.

This piece of audio equipment has been the best item I have ever purchased. It has many useable features such as a vinyl feel platter for scratching (sweet instant response), a built in loop effect function, a BPM counter for mixing music, auto start cueing function and the best is that you can sound like a pro with just hours of practice.

I use this table for home djing and all the effects, layout, and usb compatibility make this product phenomenal. You won't regret buying it! I prefer this over the CDJ-1000MK3 because of the built in effects. Being able to filter a track with the platter is a great experience.

Comments about Pioneer CDJ-400 CD and MP3 Player with USB for DJs:
I bought the CDJ-400 with the intention of learning to get into the digital side of DJ'ing and it couldn't have been a better buy. I researched nonstop for what pair of digital turntables I would buy at a reasonable price and came to the conclusion that Pioneer did us right with the 400's. They come ready to rock n roll out of the box. I love the jet effect and on my djm 400 mixer the possibilities for transitions are neverending. If you are looking for a quality name brand and a digi turntable to meet your intermediate-pro practicing needs look no further. The CDJ-400 is a great buy.
