Schneider 4x4" Filter Kit - Schneider Optics has taken five of the most useful filters for DV and HDV cinematography and combined them into one convenient and affordable kit. This creativity booster is bound to become a valued cornerstone in every video professional's toolbox.
The kit includes one each of the following 4x4" filters:
4x4 ND .6 Solid
The ND .6 Solid Filter has a Neutral Density of 0.6 (2 stops), which reduces transmission by 75%. It can be used to control exposure or depth of field under various lighting conditions without affecting color or contrast.
ND .6 Soft Edge Graduated:
Century's ND .6 Soft Edge Graduated Filter employs a surface that is 50% clear and 50% with a neutral density of 0.6. The shift from clear to ND is achieved with a Soft Edge (SE) transition line. The ND .6 Soft Edge Graduated Filter balances exposure within a scene - for example, the exposure of sky and earth in a landscape, avoiding overexposed blank white skies.
Circular Polarizer:
The Century Polarizer reduces glare and unwanted reflections, saturates colors, deepens blue skies, improves contrast, and penetrates haze. Polarizers are commonly used to control glare on water and to allow the camera to see below the surface. They are also used to reduce glare on car bumpers and to control reflections on plate-glass windows.
Black Frost 1/2:
For subtle enhancement of a scene, the Black Frost 1/2 Diffusion Filter may be used to flare highlights, mute colors, and tone down contrast, without degrading image quality or black saturation.
Skintone Enhancer:
The Century Skintone Enhancer Warming Filter adds warmth to skin tones and accentuates foliage and architecture while reducing excessive blue in outdoor open shade. The ideal tool for romantic close-ups, it can be effectively combined with Century softening filters.

It does what you expect it to do.
I wish a kit with nd3, nd6, nd9, nd6 grad and pol was on offer too.

Comments about Century Precision Optics 70-C48801 Filter Kit (4x4"):
I used these filters for the first time on a national TVC shoot. We were shooting HD video (@ between 1/50 and 1/100 sec exposures) on a 5Dmkii.
This particular series of TVCs required us to shoot a lot of low angle exteriors featuring talent in front of big skies, which were often full of cloud. Using only available / reflected light we relied heavily on the ND .6, circular polarizer and ND .6 soft grad to make the shots work.
The soft grad helped pull back clouds of an overcast sky to a more acceptable contrast level, while the polarizer cut glare and enriched the blues of clear skies. The .6 ND helped us get closer to an optimum aperture (though for us a .9 or even 1.2 would have been better at times). I did not use the other two filters, as my mattbox only had two filter slots and the ones we used were more appropriate and necessary. I'd likely use the skin tone filter but am not so sure about the black mist as shallow depth of field often gets the softness that I need, and I rarely shoot on anything but prime lenses when shooting video.
The included case is robust and the DVD basic but clear and helpful.
These filters have now become an essential part of my kit.

It is a good selection of the basic filters most wanted. The kit is a good start for what a cameraman should always have on hand. Good quality-price ration.

Comments about Century Precision Optics 70-C48801 Filter Kit (4x4"):
Even though I say "starter" kit, this is probably all most people are going to need. Obviously, some of the stuff in here is more useful than others. You'll probably use the ND and polarizer the most, and maybe the Grad ND, depending on what you're shooting. The skin tone enhancer is an interesting concept. You might use it a lot or not at all depending on how comfortable you are with color correction/grading. None of the effects in the kit are particularly extreme, so it's a good place to start experimenting without ruining footage.
To those of you who are curious, the filters are identical to Schneider's mainline filter with the exception of edge-sealing, which Century filters do not have.

It's a great value considering the individual cost of each filter. This can't be beat.
