The Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2.0 SL-II Manual Focus Lens is an ultra-compact, sturdy manual focus lens that features high-quality traditional construction with classic styling, while using modern optical lens technology. This lens is part of the SL II series, which feature a CPU (Central Processing Unit) built into the lens. Having the CPU integrated into the lens allows it to support the camera's metering functions, even with the latest DSLRs (in manual focus). In addition, this also means that the aperture is now controlled by the camera's command dial.
This lens offers a bright f/2 maximum aperture, with a minimum focusing distance of 1.25' (38cm), and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:7. However, this lens is supplied with a dedicated close-up lens, which results in a minimum focusing distance of 0.8' (25cm), and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4. Used on an APS-C sized DSLR camera, this lens is equivalent to a 60mm lens in 35mm terms.

Comments about Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2.0 SL-II Manual Focus Lens:
My favorite lens after three weeks of use. Great focal length for the k20d cropped sensor. Very good for casual portraits and general street photography because it is more discrete than a large zoom. Also very good for nature close-ups with the included adapter, which match the lens very well optically. The all-metal construction quality is excellent. Focusing is smooth and precise. The only negative is some CA in very high contrast situations.

Comments about Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2.0 SL-II Manual Focus Lens:
This is my default lens, perfect as a walkabout, candid portraits, night photography and general use.
Build quality is excellent, it is lightweight and compact.
The images possess lifelike color rendition and smooth backgrounds. Recently took some amazing photos at a local aquarium with no flash.
Have already received several inquiries as to what camera I use, it is a Pentax K2000. This lens is a great alternative to the FA-43mm with no sacrifice in image quality. It has better resolution wide open, a boon for low-light shooting. No tripod necessary, all Pentax bodies incorporate image stabilization.
For the best image quality at the best price, Pentax and Voigtlander should be on your short list.

Comments about Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2.0 SL-II Manual Focus Lens:
Absolutely thrilled. Bought this as my "regular" lens along with the Nokton 58mm for portraits.
I can hardly put the camera down, the images are THAT good, even in low light. Included close-up lens is a bonus for tight shots.

Comments about Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2.0 SL-II Manual Focus Lens:
This is a manual focus lens that works well on digital cameras. I got it in preference to its competitors because it was faster (f/2), of an odd focal length that I wanted, and built for manual focus. It's great for outdoor shots of things around you. It's meant for 35mm film too.
Did I mention that it's fast? In-focus areas are sharp, even wide open. Out-of-focus areas are smooth and unobtrusive as opposed to creamy and rich on the one hand or ugly on the other. The cute little hood and cap work well and are easily replaced with something more ordinary if you prefer: the filter ring diameter behind them is a commonplace 52mm.
Consider also the bigger sibling, the Voigtländer Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL-II.
