Sony's step-up from the SR10 is the aptly named HDR-SR11 Hybrid HDD/Memory Stick High Definition Camcorder. This remarkable HD hybrid camcorder proves itself worthy with a 5.6Mp ClearVid CMOS image sensor that features Exmor technology and a BIONZ processor. Capture stunning video and 10.2Mp stills with this top-of-the-line sensor. The Exmor technology provides high resolution and high sensitivity for incredible detail and rich, natural color. The day before we left for a trip we decided to ditch the DV Tapes and pick up the SR11. From the minute we unpacked it and got the battery charged up we were ready to go. I was thinking of getting the SR12 but honestly the SR11 has more then enough shooting room, the battery however does go quick so I'd recommend picking up and extra one. The Video is amazingly sharp and the photo side of the camera looks great, it's the first time I ever took a picture with a camcorder that actually looked worth a darn.
My only issue with the camera is that I have no idea how to shoot video in SD mode, the manuals skip over the exact procedure to get into it and I'm hearing now that you have to have no video saved to switch between the two modes.
The software that comes with the camera works well and is simple to use and sort out your media, transfer to the PC is incredibly fast as well. We edit with Sony Vegas so i can't comment on the accompanying software when it comes to converting but I would highly recommend getting Vegas to handle all the formats.
Picture quality in Low light conditions is excellent and better then I expected.

This camera was very intense. Amazing HD quality. Perfect. But besides that, I hate it. BEWARE!!! This camera shoots in AVCHD which is a codec not supported by Premiere and other editing software and it lags like crazy unless you have a pretty high tech computer. I had built my own computer for this camera, (4gigs ram, quad core) It still lags. Just make sure that you are comfortable with High Definition Hard Drive editing before purchasing this camera! Many cameras like this have the microphones on the top of the camera so picking up sound is sometimes a challenge. The battery only lasts for an hour so either buy another battery or watch the battery life! But picture is great, and I that's the only thing that makes me want to keep this camera.

I bought this video camera right before my wedding. It was put to good use at the wedding AND our honeymoon in tahiti. It's very easy to use - even though Im tech savvy - anyone could pick it up like a pro. It has cool features like nightvision and slow motion. Must buy an extra battery...I bought two extra battery's. It does drain somewhat quick but the extra juice is enough for a full day of anything.
A good addition, is the external light that mounts easily on the top (its only like $30) and I purchased Wide conversion Lens VCL-HG0737C. You may not need the lens, but its so good to have. really widens out your view when you shoot in a small area like a kitchen, etc...also gives your panoramics a big upgrade!
One thing, I use Final Cut Pro to take the vids off the camera and place them on my external drive (i use a mac so included software is useless for me)

Video is beautiful and the stills are fantastic! All in all this is a wonderful camcorder. My only complaint is with the MAC interface. The computer finds and mounts the hard disk drive but the clips are not recognized by either iMovie or Apple's Final Cut. Apparently this is not a new problem but there is 3rd party software that will get around the problem and without loss of quality in the clips. This adds another step but for the quality, it's worth it!

I have had this camcorder for about 2-3 weeks now and I am loving every minute of it. Great clear picture at amazing 5.1 channel sound. Easy to use and can be edited in Pinnacle Studio 12 to burn to blue ray discs. Like the slow motion feature as well, and get to keep great memoried in HD. There is really nothing I don't like about this camcorder. Been stuck indoors recording because it has been below 20 degrees here, can't wait for spring to arrive to record some more. Make sure a purchase a second battery, it comes in handy.

Great camcorder that is so easy to operate- touch screen! Very small and extremely light weight. Very impressed with the quality. The only thing I cannot figure out is how to get the video on to the computer! The directions in the user manual are very vague and the directions do not tell you what kind of DVD you need to burn it on- which is hard for someone like me that is NOT technology savvy. Overall this camcorder is very easy to operate- now I just have to figure out how to burn a DVD!

Works well in low light, very high quality images. Seems to have ports and plugs for all possible needs, easy to figure out on you own, which is good because the manual is minimal to say the least, although it did have all I needed with a little trial & error.
Included software is very confusing and not terribly useful.

I'm still learning the best way to use the camcorder for action video. Printed the handbook from sony.com all 125 pages. Learning is fun and exciting, can't wait to try the things I have just read. Bought the adobe editing software but probably should have just stayed with the sony software that came with the camcorder. The touch screen makes for option finding simple. Not sorry for the purchase.

This is my 3rd camcorder from Sony and I love the video and audio quality of the HD version. Indoor quality is excellent even in low light condition. I also bought a sony wide lens to capture more expecially for indoor events. Nothing to complain so far. I would give it a 5 star but I cannot select for some reasons. I use this all the time for family home videos. The picture and sound quality is amazing indoors and out! It has everything you need for semi-professional videos. B&H delivered it on-time as promised in factory sealed box without any bait-and-switch tactics or sales calls. There are only 2 cons with this camcorder. 1) The still camera flash will not turn on if you have any lens attached. This is a known "feature". 2) The bundled software is fine if you simply want to view your videos or burn them on a DVD. However, if you want to create movies and edit them with additional sound, transitions, etc. You will need to buy Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum ($85) in order to do professional video editing in the (AVCHD) high-def format. With this Sony SR-11 camcorder and the Sony Vegas Software, you can easily create incredible videos that will impress all your friends.

I really have nothing bad to say about the HDR-SR11. The movies are in focus and have excellent color. The still shots are as good as my digial SLR. I used the Sony 16gb memory stick with no problems. The manual was a little sparce so I downloaded the one from the Sony web site. It was much more detailed.
