The LCD Hood works great. It was easy to assemble and install. It can be removed quickly for camera storage. I shoot a lot outdoors and it really improves what I see in the viewfinder when the sun is bright. My only complaint would be the flip-out portions of the hood are pretty flimsy. Not sure how long it will last shooting in the conditions that I use the camera in.
Other than that, it's a good product.

This thing does what it says - blocks some of the light from your Z7U or S270 flip out viewfinder (It comes with brackets for both). That said, I would not buy another one. I'd rather just use the eye-piece, or even keep searching for something else.
A couple of things bother me about this item.
-You have to take it off each time you flip the viewfinder back into place.
-The set-up just feels strange with the velcro and plastic wings.
It does slide easily into place when you want to use it. The wings fold out and stay extended with velcro spots.
It feels pretty solid. I mean it's not a total piece of junk, but I was disappointed with it from the start.
As I'm thinking about it more it seems like a legacy product (70's-80's type) slightly updated to work with the new cameras. It does fold down to a pretty small package so at least it doesn't take up too much room in one of your bags.
Expectations are everything and I was expecting more than I got.

This product works well but unfortunately Sony got me for another [$] to correct a problem with THEIR spectacularly inferior camera LCD. I won't buy any more Sony products as their quality has decreased and they always seem to leave off some crucial feature in their products forcing you to go to the next level or, as I will do from now on, to another manufacturer

I use this with my SONY Z5U. It slips easily on the LCD screen and neatly stashes away when I don't need it. Shooting in the snow on a sunny day can make seeing the LCD difficult at best. This hood does an excellent job of cutting the glare. Nice tool to have in your bag.

Advantages:
This hood is lightweight and easy installed.
The hood does not need to be removed if you fold the viewfinder faced up.
Drawbacks:
Hard to say, if that velcro will work for a long time. These velcro doesn't look very reliable.
The hood limits the angles from which you can see the LCD panel.
Overpriced.
This hood fitted my HXR-NX5 perfectly.

we shoot a lot in the bright sun and in situations where the eyepiece cannot be used majority of the time. other hoods are either too big, or come in the way of the many attachments on the camera. it is also very nice that it folds into the lcd itself!

Lightweight, easy to install! I have no issue with the lightweight design of this hood. It is very clever how it folds into itself and the sides are secured with Velcro when in use. If you fold the viewfinder back to the camera face-up as opposed to face down, the hood does not need to be removed from the camera.
Outdoors, the hood works great! No more guessing in the bright sun.

I shoot commerical and industrial videos with the Sony HVR-S27u. The hood fits properly and folds out of the way in seconds. It also helps in keeping your view private when on-lookers get in the way.

Despite the fact that you can get cheaper LCD hoods, the advantage of having the Sony LCD Hood is that it's engineered to work with their cameras- and that means they've designed it to stay on the camera and fold down when not in use. It works on my HVR-Z5U as advertised. Folds down neatly onto the LCD screen when not in use. I'd recommend this to anybody with a Sony HDV camera.
