The Delkin Devices Archival Gold DVD-R 'Scratch Armor' Recordable Disc (Spindle Pack of 25) is a disc with an archival life of more than 100 years. This disc has a storage capacity of 4.7GB, or two hours of recording time. It has an 8X write speed. The key component is gold, one of the most inert, reflective elements on earth, which makes it ideal to resist the effects of temperature and humidity. This characteristic prevents oxidation, a common cause of failure in most DVD discs. A spindle is included, to provide safe storage for the discs. This disc has Scratch Armor coating, which lasts 10 times longer than other recordable media, and prevents scratches, scuffs, dirt, chemicals and fingerprints that can damage it beyond repair.

About 3 years ago I bought an external hard drive to back up my photo files, but that drive recently died ahead of my significantly older internal computer hard drives, which continue to function. I replaced the failed hard drive, but this time took the additional step of burning my most important work to these archival gold DVDs that have an estimated life span of 100+ years. Makes me feel a lot more secure.

I use this medium to store all my photo (RAW) files, using the function in Photoshop Elements that: burns all photo files to DVD; deletes them from my hard drive; displays a reference thumbnail in Elements; tells me how to mark each DVD, for retrieval. Then, when a photo is needed, clicking on the thumbnail tells me which DVD to load.
GREAT: safe, secure storage, offline, in a physical (not electronic) medium.
NOT GREAT: I have experienced a number of defective discs, which could not be successfully burned - requiring a repeat of the time consuming process, plus the scrap cost of defective discs (as well as scrapping correctly burned discs in a multi-disc transfer, as Elements does not "remember" the successful discs / requires a repeat burn of all discs in the series).

Delkin Archival Gold DVD-R "Scratch Armor" Recordable Disc is a high quality product and packaged conveniently. The large 2GB capacity of the DVD-R disc is a huge advantage over using a CD-R disc. The DVD-R discs can be very conveniently stored in an archival pocketed-page album and the content of each disc marked with an archival pen. One is thus assured of a safe and longterm means of storing important quality photographs.

Been using for 4 years this product. Great for backing-up and storing as another resource besides the external hard drive. Only con, every so often one DVD is a dud and won't write the files. Expensive toss into the trashcan.

I've been using Delkin Archival Gold DVD-Rs for providing full resolution and retouched wedding photography images to my wedding clients for years. The fact they may be expected to hold wedding photography for over 100 years is extremely important to all my clients.

About half of the Delkin DVDs failed to write,Delkin said I needed a new burner bought a new burner and they still had a high failure rate. Switched DVD brands and haven't had any problems with the original Apple burner, now I have two burners that work fine with other brands.

Comments about Delkin Devices DVD-R Archival Gold 'Scratch Armor' Recordable Disc (Spindle Pack of 25):
Archival DVDs are my primary storage feature. I index each one numerically and with Photoshop Contact Sheet showing thumbnails of each archived image. This makes them easily identified and accessable. Additionally, I back-up all DVDs on remote hard-drive.

I use these DVDs for archival purposes, and have yet to have one fail either on verification or when retrieving files later. The new versions are now up to 8x write speed, so they record quickly on my LaCie external burner.
I only wish they were less expensive, but with gold at $900 per ounce...
