Given the choice between OEM and aftermarket off-brand, I opted to get a Canon battery for back-up for use with this camcorder. The batteries I have experienced on my Nikon DX2, and D1 are now OEM. The others just don't seem to hold a charge like OEM.

I purchase 2nd and 3rd batteries for a 12 day wilderness trip. Over the course of the 12 days I was able to get 14 hours worth of footage, in cool/cold temperatures between the three batteries with some minor reviewing.
Given the small premium over secondary brands, I would go with the Canon product if I had to make the decision

I had the generic, less expensive battery before this, and it was a "get what you pay for" classic example. Buy the Canon battery for the Canon camera, charge it properly and you won't regret it.

I took it on a trip as a backup for my vixia hf21--it worked great, seems to have slightly less charge than the original but it's also a bit smaller. I'm happy.
