Certainly a helpful accessory to have. The battery that comes with the HF10 lasts little over an hour, so having the extra battery (BP-819) adds approx 2:30 hrs of recording time to your day. The only thing that I found tricky was charging the battery in the camera. The BP-819 sticks out far enough from the end of the camera to prevent the cover that protects the AC input from bending to the side to allowing access to the AC input. You have to be careful or you could break this cover off trying to charge it. Otherwise, you can get the external battery charger.

Its a bigger battery it will give you more filming time. Its compact and I cant ever feel the difference over the stock. Not to fast of a recharge but trickle charging batteries tends to be better for any battery. A bit pricey but having a smart battery and knowing how much charge time is invaluable to me. It allows me to gauge when to switch batteries before so i don't miss a memorable moment. Three stars means it does what it says its not better or worse than advertised.

If you have only the stock Canon Battery that come with your camcorder you MUST buy this one!
Stock only lasts for about 40 minutes (if you don´t start watching what you just recorded...).
This one lasts almost 3 times that!

Once fully charged & inserted into Vixia HF S21 running on SD card in MXP mode with LCD ON the remaining recording time indicated on the screen was beyond the maximum specified in the camcorder's manual - I was pleasantly surprised and even better - the recording time was respected to the last minute.

Wanted a longer life battery for sightseeing during cruise. Battery that came with camera only lasts about 1 hour. This battery doubles that time, now have about 3 hours of time to shoot. Canon battery a little more expensive but from reviews I read, is a better battery to use overall. Needed more record time during shore excursions away from ship and ability to recharge.

This battery is a good replacement for the small one that came with my Canon XA10. It fits the recessed battery compartment perfectly and does not extend past the view finder. It lasted over two hours with two 48V phantom power condenser mics and the LCD screen open.

I purchased the BP-819 battery to guarantee enough time (with the original battery as back-up) to record a wedding. The battery lasted long enough to record a 40 minute wedding ceremony, guest comments, speeches, etc., with time to spare. I did not have to go to the second battery. Worthy of 5-stars if I had the battery for longer than two weeks.
Time will tell about its long term durability and reliability.
