The Plustek OpticFilm 7300 Film Scanner is a high resolution scanner that provides 7200dpi resolution for clear and detailed digitized images in B&W and color. Its Multi-Exposure for negatives and Multi-Sampling functions minimize noise by making 4 scans on one negative and then averages the information together and cancels out noise if inconsistencies are evident, resulting in clear, high quality digital images containing lots of detail. Included with the OpticFilm 7300 is the latest version of LaserSoft Imaging's SilverFast 6.5 SEPlus software enhanced with powerful Multi-Exposure functionality, selective color correction, auto adjustment features to make it an ideal film scanner for most photographers, and home, small office or workshop users.

Simple Setup and Easy to Use
I am using the scanner to load in my negatives and slides from days gone by. Within 15 minutes of getting the scanner out of the box, I was scanning into my Mac.

The setup of the software was straight forward and has a very nice interface for quick starts. It was difficult finding a less expensive neg/slide scanner that worked with the Mac, and I am happy to say that this one works as advertised!

Comments about Plustek Technology Inc. OpticFilm 7300 35mm Film Scanner:
I have a lot of 35mm slides from a few decades of photography on river trips, backpack trips, and road trips that I want to scan. I can scan about 30 slides per hour with the 7300. I like the quick, easy adjustment of lighting parameters before each scan - particularly useful if the originals have varying lighting conditions. For the price, the 7300 is a great product.

I use this scanner for scanning negatives. I tried it on B&W negatives from an Ilford Delta Prof. ISO 100 & the resolution is great... no added grain effect is seen...

Went through two of these before deciding to spend an extra two hundred dollars and buy other than Optic-Film product.First one; After 45 slides the supplied software locked-up and the unit had a loud buzzing sound. Second, replacement unit the software again locked-up and the Twain for Photoshop wouldn't work.[...]

I am attempting to scan all of my old slides and negatives to clear closet space and to be able to share all my old personal and professional photos with friends and family. So far, this product has lived up to its advertised performance. The slide and negative holders make it easy to move from one frame to the next, and it saves time over a previous scanner which required just a little more time and effort to scan. It is also an improvement in the noise department. It works quietly.
Yes, it is somewhat slow, so the project will take some time, yet it did not advertise speed, and it is no slower than I expected. An overall good experience for me to date.

The main problem is the installation, especially for Windows 7. Instructions in box are not accurate, nor complete. After an online consultation, the scanner is installed and works great. After playing around with the settings, I have found the ones that work for the way that I plan on using the photos.

Comments about Plustek Technology Inc. OpticFilm 7300 35mm Film Scanner:
At hte moment I am scanning slides. The 4 slide slide holders works well and firmly holds the slides. It also 'clicks' into place in the insertion slot and holds the material steady. When finished with slides I intend to move on to color negatives.
I installed the enclosed Silverfast software and found it to have a steep learning curve. The videos on their site seemed to pertain to the upgrades offerred at extra cost. I found it confueing.
to push the 'easy' button I downloaded VueScan software and found it easy to use and intuitive. I selected the 4 pass scans saving the files as Tiffs. At 2400 dpi this left a managable file size. The color controls took some getting time to acquire ckill to, but worked well.
This is not a batch scanner but does scan in a high quality file in my opinion. I could not easly tell the differnce between 2400-3600 and 7200 dpi scans other thqn time spent scanning.

I just opened the box and have been scanning with it for the past few hours. It was well worth the money - now if I just had the time!
Overall, the scan quality is good. Especially if you set it at 900 dpi with a double scan pass. The file sizes are huge, but the good quality scans makes it worth it. My only complaint is that the software is a little clunky (for the mac) and is does not auto-feed the negatives... instead you have to slide the negative tray manually for each image.

Comments about Plustek Technology Inc. OpticFilm 7300 35mm Film Scanner:
I'm using it to digitize and archive about 1000 slides.
The Plustek software doesn't work at all (does not recognize the scanner). The Siverfast software is extremely slow and instable. Can't scan more than 3 or 4 slides until the software hangs and I have to reboot the system.
Maybe it's because of Win 7 Ultimate or because there is another flatbed scanner attached to the system. Whatever the reasons are - it takes in average 1 hour to get 6 slides done!! Well, that means about 180 hours before the job done!

I have lots of film to scan. There are so many settings in the software that comes with the scanner! I have a lot to learn, but I am happy with the results I have so far.
The resolution is great! I do not need the full resolution because I am not printing posters.
The speed changes based on the resolution settings selected.

Comments about Plustek Technology Inc. OpticFilm 7300 35mm Film Scanner:
The product clearly advertises on the box for Windows and Mac. However, no Mac software is supplied despite instructions for installation. Once contacting Plustek support, they are well aware of this and an address for downloading this is supplied. However, the key does not work should an upgrade have taken place, as in my case.
So I sit with demo software and a couple of hours wasted trying to sort it out. I imagine that it will eventually be sorted out but frankly, any manufacturer that is prepared to misrepresent to the extent that has happened here should be avoided.
Half a star given half a chance.

I bought this film scanner to scan my negatives (and I have a lot of them)to my computer. When it arrived, I almost could not get it away from my husband. I have scanned several pictures and although they don't look "perfect" they are very good. I love that you can tweak the pictures before saving and then don't need much more tweaking!! Thanks for this great product!

I am scanning several hundred slides, and the performance of the scanner is excellent. The additional software (SilverFast) is a bit complicated and takes some working. I would like to have some printed material for the software, but it is out of print. They do provide Quicktime movies for most of the features.

I wanted a scanner that didn't cost too much and this seems to do that job. I'm just trying to scan old family slides and it has been very easy. The process is a little time consuming, but I didn't want to spend the extra money on getting a feeder.
