Comments about Monsoon HAVA Titanium HD Wi-Fi TV Place-Shifter:
I have for a long while been looking for a piece of equipment to stream media mostly from my computer to my t.v. However the Hava does the exact opposite, it streams media from your t.v.,DVR,VCR,DVD,etc to your computer. After insuring all equipment pieces were there due to it being open box, I began the install.
I have a dishNet 625 receiver with dual tuners. I hooked the Hava HD RCAs up to second t.v. tuner. Installed the wifi dongle to usb port #2 and held in the reset button for 1 minute to erase the previous owners setup attempts if any.
I then went to my computer, put in the setup disk and followed the instructions. I was up and running within 15 to 20 minutes. However, there were updates that showed. But, I skipped this part continued to install Hava, ensured it was working, then updated from the Hava website.
If you have basic knowledge of setting up A/V equipment such as hooking up a basic dvd player then setting up the Hava will be simple.
If you can follow directions from the disk it's as simple as pie.
The only downfall is the design. It has a u-shaped front and very metallic silver looking not fitting in with the rest of my A/V equipment.
Also, the L.E.D lights are green and bright at night. At times literally being distracting. I had to put the Hava behind my dish receiver.
And, I think the L.E.D lights are very simple and should be replaced with better icons letting you know what they mean. Such as some routers that have 1,2,3,4 for the ports that light up when a port is in use. How about things such as connected,on,off, wifi in use, etc.
The wifi dongle cord (and the rest of the connections for that) is not long enough, so I sacrificed where I wanted to really put my Hava. I would of liked to place it on top my t.v. hutch out of sight. I would of preferred also if it had optionial antenna hook-ups like a router so I could put it anywhere I wanted and not string along a USB dongle.
Also, for my particular dish receiver. Hava comes with the ability to act and function like a remote. However, due to using the second tuner it would not function correctly. It was assuming the rights of the first remote and tuner. However, I was able to use the actual remote #2 of tuner 2 as if it were hooked up to a tv. No foul no harm. It should have an option to select what remote and tuner you are using in the next software update so that this can be fixed.
Honestly though, a great piece of equipment.
