The MR5 from Mackie provides professional-quality sound at an incredibly affordable price. This active nearfield monitor is ideal for stereo or surround sound applications for professional or project studios. The rugged cabinet houses a 5.25" steel-frame woofer and a waveguide-loaded 1" tweeter to provide a full frequency response. Class A/B amplifiers provide a total of 85W of power for a strong performance.
A precisely-molded minimum-diffraction baffle allows sound to travel smoothly in a wide dispersion pattern. This provides a wide sweet spot for accurate mixing. The MDF cabinet features a rear bass port designed to deliver strong bass without vent noise, distortion, or pressure.
The rear panel of the monitor offers XLR, TRS, and RCA connectors so you can connect to virtually any system you encounter. High and low frequency filters and an input level control are also provided for fine-tuning your sound. The monitor is also magnetically shielded for safe use near video monitors.

Comments about Mackie MR5 85W 5.25" Active Two-Way Studio Monitor (Single):
I hooked these up to my computer directly to my mini-stereo to RCA out and figured it would sound ok until I got my DAC but they sounded amazing right out of the box and just got better as they broke in. It's been a couple of weeks and they sounds great with all kinds of music and movies and through the range of volumes. As for sound, they are a little heavier on the bass then I would expect and have a range a little lower than expected for 5.25" speakers at 70Hz and next to nothing below 55Hz. The mids seem tight but warm and the highs are detailed but not fatiguing. Construction is good, they seem well made. The speakers are fairly heavy for their size and all of the connectors seem well attached. I bet they would travel well with the consideration that they do not come with or have a spot for speaker guards. For [$] out the door with tax and a cable I think these are a great buy and I would recommend them for use as a budget studio speaker, good near-field monitor, and great high end computer speaker for small to midsized rooms.

Comments about Mackie MR5 85W 5.25" Active Two-Way Studio Monitor (Single):
I use these Mackie's for mixing and editing projects in my small home studio. They have a no frills look about them which in my opinion means that the money was spent where it should be... on a quality bang for my buck monitor. They are not flashy looking, so if your goal is a specific look for your studio take that into consideration.

Comments about Mackie MR5 85W 5.25" Active Two-Way Studio Monitor (Single):
They are a bit bassy, but as long as you're aware of that and test your mixes on other systems and/or tune your output via a soundcard EQ if you have such a system you will do alright. They have also proven superb for just listening and video gaming. For the price they deserve probably another quarter or half star. Better than any other speakers I've owned, and they even project music from the studio area into the kitchen without much noticeable lack of quality or distortion. They fill the room (20x20 or so) with sound.

Comments about Mackie MR5 85W 5.25" Active Two-Way Studio Monitor (Single):
i own the mackie hr824s and do a lot of mixing and some mastering. i was not thinking these would be their equal, but they aren't meant to be. i will tell you that i could mix on these monitors, and get great results. and in comparison to many other speakers in this price range, these are really smooth, true in the mids and highs and have decent bass response. i definitely recommend them.

Comments about Mackie MR5 85W 5.25" Active Two-Way Studio Monitor (Single):
I use these for mixing at home. Very flat response across the spectrum. Sound wise these monitors are very similar to Hafler monitors. Could use a little more output but for that you can get larger monitors. Awesome bang for your buck!

I use these for monitoring with Protools 8. I have no complaints with the sound quality. Good basic speakers. They have no frills though and looks wise don't offer much. Fortunately I don't need them to LOOK good, just SOUND good, and they do deliver there!

Comments about Mackie MR5 85W 5.25" Active Two-Way Studio Monitor (Single):
Clean, crisp, sharp, uncolored...and a GREAT value. I have these connected to an HT Omega Claro HALO sound card in my DAW. They are cleaner than my Behringer MS-20s of course. Excellent for editing, recording, and general listening. I am quite impressed...Mackie quality at a reasonable price.

Comments about Mackie MR5 85W 5.25" Active Two-Way Studio Monitor (Single):
I just recieved these monitors as my first set of studio monitors, never having even heard true studio monitors before, I'm absolutely blown away by the clarity and response of the MR5's. The features offered, like the room adjustment switches are not typically found on monitors in this price range, and because of the Mackie name, you also get EAW engineering. Worth every penny to me!
