The Thomas DUC Color Duplex Super Safelight is considered the best professional darkroom lamp. When used, the vanes should be fully closed so that light pases through the black edge of the lamp.
The light level will appear rather low, but it will still be many times brighter than that of conventional color safelights.
NOTE: This is not a typical darkroom safelight. It is a heavy duty unit designed to provide many years of trouble-free service. Inasmuch as this unit weighs 20lbs, it requires extremely secure suspension from the ceiling.
| Application | Color darkroom safelight. Use FCD filters for color work. Use FBD for standard black and white printing. |
| Rotating Head | For color darkrooms: Vanes should be fully closed to avoid leakage of unfiltered light. (For black and white: Adjustable vanes for varying degree of light). |
| Mounting System | Ceiling mounted. Requires heavy duty ceiling mount with two sturdy eye bolts (not supplied). Recommended installation height is 7 feet from the floor (adjustable). |
| Replacement Bulb | Type "LDS" lamp only; Type FBD (B/W), Type FCD (Color), Type FOD (Ortho film), Type FXD (X-Ray film), |
| Interchangeable Filters | Yes, 11 x 3.7" filters in vanes, 11.5 x 4" filters in body. |
| Voltage | 115v/60hz, 2amps. Unit is turned on by plugging it into an active electrical outlet. When cold, the system requires about 5 minutes to reach full operating brilliance. It is not recommended that it be turned on and off frequently. (230v possible by special order) |
| Dimensions | 16.5 x 11.5" (overall hanging dimensions) |
| Weight | 23lbs. (shipping weight), 19lbs. (suspended weight) |
