This little gadget has solved my great struggle to have all my video and still files available to all the computers on my mixed Mac/PC network. In the past, the only options were expensive and complicated. The DroboShare, however, makes it easy. It was trivial to setup - just plug it in, install the dashboard software, and off you go. It takes up no real space since it stacks neatly under the Drobo itself, and it is completely silent in operation. Every computer now has access to any of the files, and it's pretty much invisible to me.
In all fairness, there are a couple of minor nits. It takes a little bit to get on-line after a boot or login, so don't expect the data to be there instantly. The speed is limited by the USB link between the Drobo and the DroboShare. And for security, there is an all-or-nothing password scheme, so there's not much flexibility for allowing access to some folders but not others.
All-in-all, I've been immensely please with this product.

The DroboShare is a great idea that lets you combine the resources of two Drobos and makes them available to an entire network. This Network Attached Storage for a very inexpensive price was very tempting! It was very easy to set up, possibly the most simple installation of a network device that I've ever had. All that sounds great, why then just one star? Well, the DroboShare claims that it is a Gigabit Ethernet solution, but it only transfers data at around 10 Mbps. (This confirmed by their tech support) This is completely unacceptable to people who deal with large amounts of data, such as video storage. It has some other benefits if you were just throwing word docs around or maybe even just using it to back up a couple computers overnight. But the speed of transfer makes this items use very limited. We ended up just attaching the Drobo by its firewire 800 and sharing it as a drive. That works great! The DroboShare however, is not yet ready for prime time.

I purchased this with the idea of having the drive connect to my network and have a back up program back my data up. I had a tough time setting up some APPS that can be installed, but other than that it works as advertised. Though the reviews have been right it is slow .....

Works as advertised. Easy setup. Makes the Drobo accessible to our entire office network.
The only downside is that you can't control permissions for specific files or folders.

Had to get help from drobo to set it up and it still is not functioning. I wanted to acces mu image files from the road and it has been 3 months and still cannot do it. The salesman told me it would be great for that the tech guy told me to buy anothre program like PC anywhere and leave it plugged into my desktopo via usb but my desktop is 64 bit and the "dashborad" does not support 64 bit so that will not work either

It's a cinch to set up. It configures itself automatically. In a few minutes, every PC on your network has access to a huge shared secure storage server.
