The Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router from Linksys combines the functions of a Cable/DSL router, a wireless access point and a network storage server into one compact device. The router allows you to share your Internet connection between several computers that can connect via the draft 802.11n wireless protocol or via any of four wired RJ-45 Ethernet ports. The router is also fully backwards compatible with legacy 802.11b/g devices.
The router also features a firewall to protect you from malicious software that can attack your computer from the Internet, as well as wireless security to insure that your data remains private.
The router can achieve blazing fast speeds via the draft 802.11n wireless connection, and it is also fully backward compatible with devices that use the older 54Mbps 802.11g and 11Mbps 802.11b standards. These features make the wireless router a great way to add wireless access to your home network.

I recently bought the Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router by Linksys, which I installed in the basement. The set-up materials look easy and seem like they should be, however I did run into some difficulties. One issue is that it requires two ethernet cables to install the software on a computer, even though only one cable will ever be used from then on.The more disconcerting issue is that Linksys customer support is not taught how to install their products on Mac computers. I have a Mac and found it difficult to change all the settings/passwords to actually make the network work. The customer service agent said they could transfer me to one of their Mac specialists for a mere $9.99. Hah! I said no, and eventually the customer service agent and I were able to get things working by trial and error.Since then, the connection has been pretty reliable. As I mentioned, I installed the wireless router in the basement, and I still have most of the bars when upstairs on the third floor.

I tried to set this up in an existing network when I first got it, but was unable to successfully configure it. I finally swapped it out with another Linksys AP and put the WRT160N in place of an old router.
After a few weeks I started having problems with dropped Wifi connections. A little searching on the net showed that lots of people were having this problem. I wrote a cron job to automatically reboot the router every morning before my day started.... problem continued.
Out of frustration, I finally replaced this router with a new E3000 from Linksys (NICE router) and started doing some serious diagnostics on this router. It turned out that the wifi signal would just drop out every few seconds then come back up. The wired signal seemed to be stable.
After I replace the router, I found that there was a firmware update to 3.0.0.3 available. The wireless signal continued to be unstable, and I was able at that point to successfully configure the device as an access point (AP). Later, I experimented with the dd-wrt after-market firmware -- WOW! (If your router is stable, I highly recommend installing dd-wrt!)
I contacted Linksys technical support and we did an RMA on the router. We'll see if the problem persists when I get it back. I have to give Linksys a solid 5-stars for tech support! I was very impressed.

I bought this modem for my mother who lives out of state. She installed it herself with help from me over the phone. Easy setup was important to me and this modem did not disappoint. If it had a USB port to connect a media drive I would give it 5 stars.

I use this router a home, broadcasting to two computers. This router was super-simple to install, and in fact if you have a Mac, you don't even need to use the install disk, you can just plug-and-play.
My only issue with this router is that it only has one port in the back to accommodate computers you want to connect via wire. Many other wireless routers have more!

No problems encountered with installation and setup. Had concerns with the fact that we have satellite internet, not "true" DSL, things may not go according to plan, but they did.

Comments about Linksys Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router:
When it works, it works fine. BUT: I moved and when I got to the new house and set it up, it wouldn't work. So I went on line to find out what troubleshooting I could do to fix, and I was unsuccessful. So I called customer service and they wanted me to pay 29.00 for tech support. I refused to pay so I purchased the same router, and that new one wouldn't work either. So I called tech support again and they instructed me to type the IP address of the Router into the URL of my web browser. After doing that I was able to reconfigure the device to work. Long story, short. Once you unplug it, there is a long road to recovery.

Comments about Linksys Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router:
First time easy to set up with the included software. Good to ensure a WiFi key.
But not that yeasy to change the settings later on. Some features can only be changed wia the Network Magic, not directly by logging into the router directly. Later on the network Magic is not accurate when informing about status on the network.
The router is not as fast as promised.
I had a key on the network, but the network Magic said it was still un-secure. Only when using network magic would it tell it was secure.
Strange that Cisco cannot do better.
Connecting a Nindento DSi was easy.

Tried many times to set the router with a static ip(our network requires) and it would not function. Router had new firmware update which was downloaded. Tried to customize with static ip and again would not function. IE sometimes network would function and not the internet and vice versa-somtimes neither would function. Returned to seller.

Didn't work for me. The wireless router was in my bedroom and when I was in my living room, 4 walls of drywall away, my computer (Macbook) could not pick up the wireless network at all.
I returned it.
Might work for your situation, but consider the distance you need.

This is my second one. I originally got a refurbished one and it kept turning itself off. So I decided to get a new one and now this one does not shut off but it keeps disconnecting the wireless connection. I keep having to unplug and replug it in as the 2 reset buttons don't do anything.
