The Crane SLSC Flash Shoe Mount Adapter for Canon 580EX allows a Canon 580EX series shoe mount flash to be mounted onto any device featuring a 1/4"-20 screw. This adapter provides a secure locking anti-twist connection. Made from Delrin, a strong plastic, it is designed to prevent electrical contact with the flash unit.
Note! This model allows the flash to be positioned with the auto-sensor facing the subject.

Light stand with mounted speedlight tipted over by the wind. Stand is Ok, flash is Ok, shoe mount broke plastic handles. Would not recommend it

Comments about Crane SLSC Locking Shoe Mount Adapter:
I purchased this shoe for a custom flash frame that I'm building. It didn't work for the intended purpose and I set it aside. As the flash frame project evolved, I saw an opportunity to include this shoe as an auxillary (using a 1/4-20 thumbscrew to allow tool-free installation). It was perfectly suited for that purpose.

Comments about Crane SLSC Locking Shoe Mount Adapter:
It's bit pricey but does a much better job of attaching to a lightstand then the cheap attachment that comes with the canon flash.

Comments about Crane SLSC Locking Shoe Mount Adapter:
Great Cold Shoe,, Ive been looking for something like this for awhile and theres no other shoe like it. For Canons 580 ex II and 430 ex II it works great. Sliding locking pin sits it pre drilled hole in shoe.. Cut out so contacts dont rub against shoe. No need for tape or none of that nion sense.. I've ordered four of these now,, three are attached to the 026 manfrotto swivel and another one attached to the manfrotto flash bracket

Comments about Crane SLSC Locking Shoe Mount Adapter:
The unit contains a cut out preventing the flash's contacts from "shorting out", critical for off-camera set ups. I'm still somewhat concerned about the amount of force needed to fully engage the Canon 580EX flash's locking system, but it does fully engage. Based on the success of purchasing one of these units, I have ordered several more.

Comments about Crane SLSC Locking Shoe Mount Adapter:
This adapter to attach Canon flashes to a stand is pricey compared to others, but well worth it if you plan to use it a lot. (If not, just use the plastic adapter included with the flash.) This one is sturdy, very well made, and seems perfectly durable. A cutout keeps the flash electrical contacts isolated (no the electrical tape kluge as needed with cheaper adapters). A small hole fits the Canon flash locking pin perfectly (same on the Canon plastic adapters). The flash slides on easily, locks securely, and cannot come loose until you release it. Fits 580EX and 550EX. I would guess it fits the other Canon flash units, but I do not have any others to test.
