Awesome! Small, functional. Much less expensive than an Ipod. Why pay more? Do it!

Comments about Creative Labs Zen 2GB Portable Media Player:
It does what it promises. 2GB is not a lot, but it accepts SD cards, so I bought 8GB SDHC card for [$], 10GB is enough for me. Also needs better headphones, I don't like plugs.Creative made the AC charger optional, which is strange, but there is no need to buy it, any mini USB charger will fit. I use charger that came with my GPS, works just fine.Overall, so far, so good...

Comments about Creative Labs Zen 2GB Portable Media Player:
expanability is a great feature with SD card. Max volume for use on a plane is marginal unless you have high sensitivity headphones(>105dB/mw) (my noise cancelling sony mdr-nc6 were good enough with adequite margin). Video quality is amazing given low bit rate. I used a pinnacle "video transfer" device (new product) at lowest rip setting (outputs H.264) and used the creative video convertor at lowest setting and the qual was still good, rising to excellent at higher bit rates. Zen does not support H.264 so you have to use the conversion SW included with the Zen. (Same H.264 file would play using quicktime on PC) Make sure you use a fast SD card for video (ultraII). I had problems with a slow/cheap SD card and video, at least at the rip side of things. If its long term reliability is good (ie still works in 3 years) then i could see giving this device a 5 based on price/performance ratio. Did not run into any problems in regards ripping my own CDs using MS media player either downloaded to the Zen or just copied to a SD card. Zen did freeze up once just after i got it, but rebooted no problem and has been faultless ever since (3 weeks heavy usage). Oh yea, the voice recorder works very well, very sensitive and good discrimination in a noisy environment.

Comments about Creative Labs Zen 2GB Portable Media Player:
I've been looking for a cheap mp3-player accepting SD-cards and able to show files on the card before I last time, about 3 years ago, ended up with an iPod (4th generation which wasn't new already). SD-cards players at that time had either poor 2-3 lines display or no at all. Now, when my iPod suddenly died I started to look around for the same functionality I was looking several years ago. Zen looked like a good candidate, and turned to be an OK alternative to the iPod if your expectations aren't too high.I bought an 8GB SD card to use with this Zen, which was almost enough for the selected music from the 40GB I realy listened on the iPod.So -- positive about the Zen:- it's small- the screen is relatively big- it playes music from SD cards- it shows you folder and file names (not mp3-tags as iPods) -- no need to organize and re-tag all the music you'll put on the cardsNegative (in absolute terms):- mine worked for 9 days, and then died -- [...] it does not remember where on the card it stopped playing -- you'll need to navigate manually if you want to continue- they claim it plays video -- turned out it wasn't able to play any of avi file I thought I'll want to watch outdoors on that screen (too high resolution although non of them were bigger than 520 dots on a long side), so -- no automatic size reduction to its' native resolutionNegative (relative to an iPod):- it doesn't remember where it stopped- it doesn't support playlists functionality (or 9 days time was enough to find it there)- it can't play a folder which contain other folders (like all the albums of one group which are in their own folders inside the group's folder) -- only one-by-one selected manually (not particularly convenient when driving)- it doesn't have a wheel :)Conclusion: if for any reason you resist buying an iPod, then Zen is an OK cheaper alternative.
