I purchased this item as a back-up for my MacBook Pro's original Power Adapter that's been through a Safari and back. It's lasted me 3 1/2 years so I really can't complain much about it falling apart. The only thing I'm indifferent about is the fact that B&H doesn't carry the all new MagSafe Power Adapter that sells for the same price at the Apple Store (online) which has the re'enforced Aluminum piece onto the power connection. All in all, the product does what it's suppose to do. The price hurts a lot but there's nothing you can do about it since Apple doesn't license out their technology. Bummer.

Pros: The MagSafe connector is more useful than you may think. I know because I got my leg tangled up in the cord of a PowerBook G4 (non-MagSafe) and sent it crashing to the ground! Now with the new MacBook Pro and the MagSafe connector I don't have to worry about pulling the computer off the desk and on to the floor by the power cord ever again.

Cons: Weak connection from the base of the power adapter to the Mac. The thin cord can develop cracks at the point where it comes out of the adapter.

I love the MagSafe adapter, it's kept my toddler from tripping or ripping out my adapter on more than one occasion.

I also like that the extended grounded plug is optional so you can adjust the length and heft of your cable if you choose.

The pack does get hot at times though, so be aware where you place it... Just in case...

I've only used it for a couple of weeks, so I can't offer much insight. I like the size better. I had one of the larger original versions. I know a lot of people have had problems with this power adapter, but my first one lasted two years while being wound and unwound at least twice a day, then stuffed in a bag overnight. Took a lot of abuse on the road, too.

It finally conked out and I had to fiddle with the cord for 5 minutes to find an angle that would get juice to the computer.

There are a couple of third party alternatives, but this is my primary computer and I felt I couldn't take a chance. Like I said: so far, so good.

This is the first replacement MagSafe adapter for my MacBook Pro. No problem with the magnetic end. The issue is the other end of the wire pulling out of the adapter. I've replaced 3 adapters now on my 6 year old PowerBook G4. Apple needs to come up with a better solution. Maybe put a MagSafe connector on BOTH ends of the wire from now on? But if you need one - you need one - there isn't really a better alternative right now.

I needed a second power adapter, having forgotten mine on a trip. [...]The power adapter works as advertised, and I do love the MagSafe connector, it's save my laptop from a nasty fall several times in the last year.I do wish the white plastic didn't scratch so easily, but... that's Apple. Does run a tiny bit hot in a desert environment though.

New reduced size means easy carry for traveling. Same magnetic attachment keeps it safe from ripping out if you kick or knock the cord. Really no downside.

Yup, it's exactly the same as the original. Of course, the thing it's "exactly the same as" is the original unit that failed, miserably, due to a poor cable design which shorts out at the plug - but the "Patented plug" keeps anyone besides Apple from making an alternative.

I like the OS and the computers, but stuff like this is tedious and irritating. I'd much rather have a fat cable that lasted than a thin cable that breaks, but they have done this (thin, brittle cable with no strain relief) on many previous power supplies and mice as well.
