The Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera incorporates a number of high-end functions and technology found in Canon's professional SLR models, including an improved autofocus sensor, enhanced 14-bit A/D conversion, and an advanced Live View function. Plus the proprietary DIGIC III image processor ensures that the fine details and natural colors of the images are optimally recorded, and also manages the camera's efficient energy consumption and high-speed signal processing performance.
The 12.2 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor employs large microlenses over each pixel to reduce noise and enhance sensitivity up to ISO 1600, while the 14-bit Analog-to-Digital (A/D) conversion process means the Rebel XSi camera records up to 16,384 colors per channel and allows the camera to produce images with finer and more accurate gradations of tones and colors. The camera also incorporates the Highlight Tone Priority and High-ISO Noise Reduction functions (previously found only on Canon's Professional Digital SLRs) and the camera is equipped with Canon's Auto Lighting Optimizer technology, which corrects image brightness and contrast automatically to prevent underexposure with backlit scenes.
The EOS Rebel XSi is fast - capable of continuously capturing 3.5 frames per second for bursts of up to 53 images. The faster frame rates and finer focusing capabilities of the Rebel XSi together with its impressive image burst rate will help photo enthusiasts capture split second action at just the right moment. Furthermore, the camera is equipped with a host of useful creative controls, including shutter speeds ranging from 1/4000 sec. to 30 sec. plus Bulb, a choice of four metering patterns including 4% spot metering, a wide range of exposure modes from fully automatic to fully manual, depth of field preview, mirror lock and much more.
The large, 3-inch, 230,000 pixel LCD monitor makes it easier for users to review images and scroll through the menus, and also features a broadened color gamut and a wide viewing perspective in all directions. Furthermore the EOS Rebel XSi camera features Live View - which allows users to frame shots through the LCD screen rather than the viewfinder - this is particularly useful when shooting at odd angles or in situations when looking through the viewfinder is impractical.
The Rebel XSi DSLR utilizes Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning system. This involves a Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit that shakes dust particles off of the low-pass filter in front of the sensor, along with post processing with the supplied Digital Photo Professional software. Here the camera maps any spots that may remain on the sensor and subsequently subtracting dust spots from the final image during post processing.
In a departure from previous EOS Digital Rebel models, which accommodated CF type memory cards, the EOS Rebel XSi camera utilizes SD and SDHC memory cards including those with capacities higher than 2GB, making it the perfect upgrade for users already equipped with SD cards from point-and-shoot model cameras. In addition, it is fully compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses, as well as EX-series Speedlites, an optional Battery Grip, and remote control and viewfinder accessories. In regards to its overall design, the EOS Rebel XSi camera features a substantial yet streamlined profile, with curved edges, contoured surfaces, conveniently placed controls and comfortably constructed rubber grip and thumb rest that all contribute to fatigue-reducing hand fit. The camera body is constructed of a rugged yet lightweight combination of stainless steel and polycarbonate embedded with glass fiber, and the chassis exterior is enrobed in a durable ABS and Polycarbonate resin that is resistant to impact damage.

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera (a.k.a. 450D) (Silver) (Camera Body):
This is my first DSLR. I purchased it as it began to discontinue, so I got it at a great price. It was definitely worth the cost. I am an amateur photographer with a definitive passion and this camera suits my needs within my budget. The only complaint I have is that it reads "BUSY" fairly often, so I sometimes wish that I had purchased a T1i.

first digital slr for me, broke it in with style at my sons swim meet over the weekend. it was suposed to be outdoors but got moved indoors because of weather. with my old speedlite flash attached, the camera completly blew me away. shot with my 70-300mm zoom, with my old film rebel i hated indoor meets cause i could never get a good shot. it will never be an issue again. haven't shot any portrait or other types yet. would definately say read through the manuel this camera can do sooooo much.

The XSi was purchased to replace a Canon film camera. It has more capability that I will use but it has been easy to adapt to and have taken some great photos of grandchildren and on the athletic field. Uses the lenses that I already had. Looking forward to some diverse photography.

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera (a.k.a. 450D) (Silver) (Camera Body):
I haven't had this camera long, but have taken over 300 pictures in a few weeks. I had a Rebel XT that broke after many pictures and years, so I was looking for replacement that would use all the lens I already have since that is the biggest expense. I love the bigger LCD since my kids always want to see the pictures immediately. The camera takes clear action shots since kids and animals don't sit still very long. I'm happy to have a great camera to capture the kids special moments and if I'm in a hurry, I can turn it to automatic and not worry about all the manual settings.

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera (a.k.a. 450D) (Silver) (Camera Body):
After some research of this camera versus it's comparable, competitive models, I chose to go w/ this one because of it's ease of use, size, capabilities, and quality of pictures. I am extremely happy w/ this product & have already recommended it to others. Other than getting used to the difference in weight, from my other camera, I have been completely satisfied. I ended up purchasing a wrist strap for support. My main goal was to find a camera that had a quicker shutter speed since I mostly take pictures of my kids' sports & concerts & shots of our horses. The most frustrating part of taking picutres is "missing the moment"--so far, I have gotten all that I have hoped for. Another one of my favorite features is the speed of the Auto-Focus. As you get older, your 'upclose' vision starts to go & you can't tell if your subject is fuzzy or not! The Auto-Focus feature, hands down, is my most favorite. My biggest hurdle now is having to wait for the upcoming events that I've been hoping to get great shots for!

I bought this camera to teach my daughter photography. She hit the ground running and is already cranking out great pictures without much help from me. "Entry Level" has come to mean great quality at a (relatively) low price.

I have been an amateur photographer for 18 years. I am now in school for photography and needed to upgrade my original Canon Rebel. I chose the XSI and I am in love with it! The Camera is user friendly, responsive, the clarity of the images are second to none. This is a wonderful camera for both amateurs and aspiring professional photographers!

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera (a.k.a. 450D) (Silver) (Camera Body):
i bought this camera a lil while ago and i must say that i love it!!
Im a student and i use it for my classes so i use for many types of things. from landscape to studio. it works really well in both of those situations.
i know alot of students who complain about the rebel being to " general consumer" for a pro photographer, but really i find it works great for what i need to do and i dont see myself upgrading anytime soon.
i just love the big lcd screen, it makes it really easy to review your photos on the go. The image it produces is awesome and most everything about it works like ya would want it to!!
I will say however that in low light situations (like in the studio) it can have a hard time auto focusing which can be very annoying.
but other then that it works really well!

Excellent camera; very fast; lightweight for the quality of the camera; would recommend this camera to anyone. would buy the body only and then research what lens you want exactly as opposed to buying a kit. This way you can get a better lens.

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera (a.k.a. 450D) (Silver) (Camera Body):
I use camera primarily during outdoor activities: Skiing, hiking, camping, etc. I also use it indoors for family events, especially to take pictures of my young Grandchildren. Under all of these conditions, the camera preforms well.
Pros:
Large display, so that I can easily read / change settings without reading glasses, which I need with other cameras, for example the 10 M pixel older version. Bright daylight is not a problem.
Compact and Lightweight camera body - with the 50 mm Canon lens it makes an excellent companion for every situation, particularly skiing. This combinations makes the camera small enough to fit into a larger pocket. From my experience with its 8 and 10 M previous version I know the camera to be very durable.
Good, improved Ergonomics, and intuitive and easily accessible buttons. It took almost no time to get used to the slightly changed button placements.
Cons:
It is somewhat disappointing that in low temperatures (30F) the maximum number of shots under continuous shooting was only 4 for the RAW format. The 10 M pixels version typically shoots 9 or more.
The Jpeg L format seems to be over compressed, when compared to RAW.
In comparison to the 10 M pixel version, the RAW file size is almost twice as large.

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera (a.k.a. 450D) (Silver) (Camera Body):
Have used it now for sports, nature, and portraits and it has performed seamlessly. Gets a bit of getting used to after a point and shoot camera and it does require constant adjustment in low light conditions but the reward of excellent pictures is worth it. A bit bulky, and a little weary of dropping it especially on mountain bike rides and hiking trips, but a good case should alleviate those worries.

This is my first Cannon and I am so pleased with it. It is easy to operate and experiment with. The quality of the photos are fantastic and for the price you pay for it, is comparable to ones that cost over $1500. I mainly take photos outside and portraits and both turn out beautifully. So far, I don't have anything negative to say about it....I hope I won't have to.

The rebel is a great camera that has the capabilities of a major DSLR without all the bulk. It's much more consumer friendly but takes great pictures.
I used to the have Rebel XT and it's pretty similar.
