Overview
  • 1Description

The Canon PowerShot A580 Digital Camera has been designed with ease of use firmly in mind, however it also produces superb image quality with a resolution of up to 7.1 megapixels and a 4x Optical Zoom lens. A wide range of shooting modes cover most family and social situations, allowing users to shoot without having to worry about camera settings, and shooting is simplified even further by placing the most commonly used Special Scene modes right onto the camera's Shooting Mode dial, so even beginners can easily create phenomenal images with the PowerShot A580.

The DIGIC III image processor offers impressive response times and also powers Canons unique Face Detection and Noise Reduction Technologies, to capture sharp, well-exposed images in any shooting situation. Furthermore, the camera feature a versatile movie mode that records VGA & QVGA quality clips with audio and two special recording modes - Fast Frame Rate mode and Compact Movie Mode. The large 2.5" LCD screen makes it easy to view and share your photos right on the camera, and the camera is conveniently powered by AA batteries, with impressive battery life. All of these features are incorporated into a compact and affordable camera that is a pleasure to take along.

8.0 Megapixel Resolution
The PowerShot A580 provides 8.0 megapixels of resolution to capture superb detail and real-life color resulting in beautiful prints with excellent sharpness and clarity at print sizes of over 16 x 20". The high resolution also means that even if you crop your image, your prints will still be breathtakingly beautiful.
Canon 4x Optical Zoom Lens
The 4x optical zoom lens is made to Canon's demanding specifications, and is capable of shooting close-ups, group shots or scenery. The addition of the 4x digital zoom yields a total zoom of 16x and provides the ability to really single out details from a distance.
Easy Mode Simplifies Operation
The Easy Mode allows even the most inexperienced photographer to take inspiring, dramatic pictures that will impress everyone, because the camera handles all the details automatically - setting every camera control including the flash to reduce blur and improve image quality.
DIGIC III Image Processor
Delivering fast, responsive camera performance and superb image rendering, the DIGIC III processor also drives Canon's landmark Face Detection technology and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Face Detection ensures accurate and bright people shots by automatically detecting faces in a scene and optimizing focus and exposure accordingly, and because the technology is hardware-based, it operates at the same rapid speed as Canon's standard AiAF. Furthermore, the processor incorporates iSAPS technology - an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.
Face Detection Technology
The PowerShot A580 features Face Detection Technology, which finds up to 9 faces in the frame and sets the most suitable focus point. In addition, Face Detection AE adjusts exposure and flash settings to ensure proper illumination of both the faces and the overall scene, eliminating the common problem of darkened or overexposed faces, and Face Detection WB means the camera concentrates upon faces when calculating white balance for the best possible skin tones. In addition, Face Select and Track lets the user highlight one face among several in a scene, and the camera concentrates on that person, even as they move around the scene.
Motion Detection Technology
The advanced Motion Detection Technology works in the background to instantly evaluate how fast your subject is moving. Then it automatically selects and sets the optimal exposure and ISO settings to keep everything looking sharp and clear.
In-Camera Red-Eye Correction
The red-eye correction feature automatically detects and corrects instances of red-eye - making your pictures look more professional, however, if red-eye is present and is not automatically detected, it can easily be corrected manually during playback mode right in the camera.
High ISO to Reduce Image Blur and Expand Low-light Shooting
The PowerShot A580 features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater flexibility for shooting.
16:9 Widescreen Mode
The PowerShot A560 includes a 16:9 widescreen option that lets you shoot still photos and movies in a format that's specially made for viewing on widescreen television sets or your computer monitor.
Flexible Movie Modes
The highly flexible movie mode provides movie capture capability that can be customized to your needs. Select from Standard or LP modes (640 x 480 @ 20 fps) and QVGA (320 x 240 @ 30 fps) resolution. Furthermore, the Compact Movie Mode (160 x 120) records at 15 fps for up to 3 minutes, and is ideal for internet and e-mail applications.
Intuitive Mode Dial and Comfortable Grip
Simply turn the Mode Dial to the needed setting to handle any shooting condition. Choose from Auto, Manual, Movie, or Special Scene where you can select from settings such as Night, Snow, Indoor, Beach and more to get the best possible image. In addition, the easy to hold extended grip of the camera means that you'll always feel secure in your shooting.
2.5" LCD Display
The PowerShot A580 incorporates a 2.5-inch LCD screen with 115,000 pixels of resolution, making shooting and playback bright and clear. Plus, the Night Display feature provides for easy viewing in low light.
Powered By AA-size Batteries
The camera uses common AA-size batteries that can be purchased at any store so you don't need to worry about running out of batteries or recharging batteries - simply get new ones locally. You can also use economical NiMH Rechargeable AA batteries.
Easy, Flexible Direct Printing Options
The Camera supports direct printing using the Canon Direct Print system or the PictBridge system, so you can print without a computer on many different brands and models of printers. The Direct Print feature also allows for image preview and editing (including cropping) on the camera before you begin printing, so your printed pictures are exactly what you need. Also, the Print/Share button is an easy way to transfer images directly to a computer when the camera is connected via the USB cable.
