Installed a pair of the 1GB 240-PIN DIMM DDR2 PC2-6400 NON-ECC memory cards in addition to the 2 512MB cards in the desktop and I noticed an immediate improvement in performance. Maximizing memory is the best and cheapest upgrade to speed up a PC.

I have a computer that is about four years old. I purchased it before I entered college. It came with 1 gb of ddr2 pc2 3200 ram. I upgraded to 4 gb (1gb x 4) of crucials ddr2 pc2 6400. It was the maximum my system could upgrade to. System sped up a little bit, but drastically when gaming.
