I use the 4GB Extreme III CF on a Canon 40D. Capacity for almost 1000 high resolution pictures upto a blazing fast 6fps for as long as I want. It never seams to need to take a breath of air.
For stills, portraits, etc I can go a full day without changing cards. If I were shooting a wedding, I'd want two more for each camera.
Extreme III CF provides an excellent balance between performance and cost. The current manufacturer rebates are a pain, but promise even better value.
My biggest problem with previous generation CF cards was access speed- requiring me to move the image files to my computer hard drive. No so with the Extreme III. Its fast enough to work the images right from the card. I can review, cul the list and then quickly copy only the images I want.
SanDisk also includes a helpful (albeit very slow) free utility program on mini CD to recover accidentally deleted files & images - A feature worth $50 even without the blazing fast 4GB card.

I am a semi-professional photographer, so I appreciate the quick turnaround on this card. I think that if you are just shooting for fun, it it great. I usually shoot in the Raw and Jpeg format, so it doesn't have a lot of space for me, I can usually only fit about 100 pictures on it. If i were just shooting for fun in a high quality jpeg format,it gives me much more, around 350.

Used on my D300S as primary card and it holds a decent amount of photos when shooting RAW. I would recommend a larger card if you do not shoot casually. for a walk around photographer it works fine

I've always used SanDisk Extreme III CF cards for my DSLRs, and haven't had any regrets. Extreme IV is faster, but my Extreme IIIs have been fast enough to store 21+ mega pixels of burst RAW images that my 5D Mark II produces, as well as 1080p HD videos. Also personally, 4GB is a perfect size as the entire contents can be burned into a regular single-layer DVD.
