I am a full-time professional photographer, and between weddings, headshots, model portfolios, engagement sessions, and commercial assignments, I shoot several thousand frames every week.
I've been using the Extreme III 8GB since they first came out -- never had a single problem -- no crashes, no lost images, nada. I currently have seven of them so I can shoot two weddings with my 40Ds without having to erase the cards from the 1st wedding.
Speed is as good as it needs to be for my cameras, and reasonably good for uploading (takes about 11 minutes with my SanDisk Firewire 800 card reader).
I would like the upload speed of the Extreme IV cards, but they are significantly more expensive, so for now, I'm sticking with the Extreme III.
I really like the 8GB capacity -- for me it's the perfect balance of two competing risk factors -- too small a card, and you're constantly swapping them, risking loss of the card, pin bending etc. Too large a card, and if something does happen, you lose too many pictures.
All in all, the perfect price/performance ratio for the professional or advanced amateur.

I am a pro photographer shooting weddings and portraits. I think this is a great little card and purchased two of them. I do wish the recording speed was a bit faster as I tend to shoot quickly and sometimes it can't keep up. Overall, a decent card.

Comments about SanDisk 8GB Extreme III CompactFlash Card:
When shooting RAW+jepg you will want a fast reliable card with lots of memory.....sooooo many people skimp on the memory cards, why?....this is the gizzy that records your wonderful photographs and video. Get a good one. Like the Sandisk extreme lll with 30mb/s and you'll have 'no worries'.
Sandisk is one of the best, don't skimp on the card. Plus get one with lots of memory, there is nothing worse than running out of memory when more photos have to be taken, you will not regret it.

Comments about SanDisk 8GB Extreme III CompactFlash Card:
I use three of these cards with my 7D, and they work great. No write/read issues thus far, fast transfer speeds, and I've gotten up to 25 full-size RAW images at high speed burst mode, which is pretty awesome.
My only gripe so far is I generally have to fight with the case they come with whenever I want to open it, but I suppose from some viewpoints that's not so much of a bad thing.

The 8GB card now allows me to shoot over 600 photos at once with out changing the card and the 30MB/S write speed is plenty fast. The price is right in the ball park.

I shoot a ton of photos, and I was constantly uploading and formatting my 2gig card since I got a D300 last year. I did have to get a faster card reader to keep up though, of course.

Comments about SanDisk 8GB Extreme III CompactFlash Card:
I ordered 3 SanDisk 8GB Extreme III compact flash cards for[$] each after rebate. They formatted in my Nikon D700 with no problems. I backpack in for two or three weeks and do not want to run out of capacity nor carry anything extra so 8 GB cards are right for me. Two or three days "out" and you should have the most reliable equipment money can buy. I have never had a problem with SanDisk cards and will not use any other brand.[...] Does not get any better than SanDisk and B&H.

Liked that this card has a lot of room. Worked great most of the time. However, when approaching the end of the memory, very slow between shots. Unreliable. Missed some great shots.
