Comments about JBL ES30B 3-Way Bookshelf Speaker (Black, Pair):
I sold my floor speakers and bought these JBLs with a 400 watt sub woofer and the sound that comes out of these babies is a beautiful thing! You can't go wrong with these.

Comments about JBL ES30B 3-Way Bookshelf Speaker (Black, Pair):
Using for TV. Sounds a lot better than speakers built into a flat panel. Amplified by Pyle Pro 100 Watt amp. The Pyle amp is a 4 ohm output so you only get 1/2 power but it is loud enough for a large room. If you want more power you need to use a 8 ohm amp. What can I say about JBL speakers, they are simply the best. I would agree that these speakers are a little large to be called shelf speakers, but that's ok because that's not how I am using them.

I use these for my surround backs, but would be ideal for fronts with the right sub. Love the bi-amp feature.

Comments about JBL ES30B 3-Way Bookshelf Speaker (Black, Pair):
I'm using these in a medium sized living room as my main left and right speakers. They are absolutely wonderful. Beautiful sound...clear highs, very impressive lows. I didn't listen to the speakers before ordering; I based my purchase on the reviews and I'm not disappointed. The only thing about the these speakers that I didn't expect was their size. The pictures are a bit misleading. If you're concerned about fitting these in a particular place be sure to research the dimensions. You won't be able to mount these to the wall. Also...a lot of people complained about the wire connections on these units stating that it was difficult to make the connections. I would disagree. The wire connections on these couldn't be easier. Buy these speakers, you won't be disappointed.

Comments about JBL ES30B 3-Way Bookshelf Speaker (Black, Pair):
Great speaker overall, but requires another speaker to supply more low tones. Great for use in stereo systems that allow subwoofer connection, and then you get the poor audiophile classical music heaven.
Also its quite big and heavy for a bookshelf speaker.

Comments about JBL ES30B 3-Way Bookshelf Speaker (Black, Pair):
I bought these for use as the rear/surround speakers in a new home theater system (Using a pair of large 'vintage' 3-way, 12" JBL L100 Centurys for the front pair). When running the "Auto-setup" on the new A/V receiver, I was surprised that it automatically desginated the ES30Bs as "large"(!). But once underway, I can see why. They have a large, effortless, and powerful sound to them that I wasn't quite expecting. JBL has been around since the 1950s, and this new ES series is impressive. The sound compares VERY well with the larger L100s, and are a great match acoustically.
The only thing I don't care for with JBL's new ES series (all of them) is the tapered cabinets they have chosen to use (which is not evident in the photographs, and I don't think is as attractive as parallel sided speakers would be). I think its a gimmick(?), but the sound is what's important, and the reat of the styling is nice.
