The Varizoom VZ Pro-EX Professional Sony EX Zoom Control is a comfort-grip style zoom controller built specifically for the PMW-EX series of camcorders. The unit fits easily onto almost any tripod handle, jib or support bar. Machined from high-grade aluminum, the VZ-Pro-EX is designed to be both lightweight and extremely durable. I don't have any problems with it. Keep in mind that it's functionality is limited by the lens - it uses a mini 8 pin plug and only allows zoom control. If you are used to a LANC controller with focus, zoom, and record, you will be sad to learn that these options do not exist with this type of controller, or any 8 pin controller.

I bought this because I needed a remote zoom control for my Sony EX1. The zoom function works wonderfully. The down side is its large size, a little klunky to get on and off my tripod, and there is no focus control. Of course I knew that ahead of time. I'm just used to my smaller Varizoom LANC controller that has the focus control too and is easier to move around when I need to change tripods. I give it 3 stars because it does what it promises, but falls short of my needs.
