The Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd Digital Camera combines user-friendliness with long-zoom versatility and high speed shooting modes that are rarely found in non-professional camera models. The 10 Megapixel FinePix S8100fd integrates a Fujinon 18x wide angle optical zoom lens with wide-angle capability (27 - 486mm equivalent), for an incredible range of image framing capability - everything from true wide angle for shooting architecture and group shots to extreme telephoto for wildlife or sports photography applications.
The sealed, built-on lens system prevents the dust contamination problems experienced with high-end interchangeable lens DSLR cameras. The S8100fd also includes an Instant Zoom function to help capture moving subjects at high zoom settings. After zooming on a subject, a single button gives an additional 1.4x or 2x digital zoom at the centre focus region of the frame, and the Zoom Bracketing feature captures 3 shots automatically at standard zoom, 1.4x and 2.0x digital zoom.
The camera is also designed to help you get the best shots under difficult shooting conditions. Fujifilm's Dual Image Stabilization combines mechanical sensor shift stabilization with Fujifilm's Picture Stabilization Technology that uses fast shutter speeds and High ISO levels to provide total anti-blur protection, and ensures that your images will be sharp, and free of motion blur - even when shooting in low light conditions.
Fujifilm's award-winning Face Detection Technology operates by identifying and prioritizing up to 10 faces in a frame and then adjusting the focus and exposure accordingly to ensure the sharpness and clarity of human subjects in the picture, regardless of background. After the shot is captured the automatic red-eye removal feature instantly checks each detected face for red-eye and if it's found, corrects it in the camera automatically, saving the time-consuming process of fixing it in your PC after the image is downloaded. Furthermore, the Continuous Shooting mode makes it easy to shoot moving subjects such as pets, kids and sports by providing high-speed shooting of up to 33 frames at 13.5 frames per second (at 3 megapixels) or 6.8 frames per second (at 5 megapixels).
The FinePix S8100fd camera provides versatility when it comes to framing and viewing your pictures. The high resolution 2.5" Wide View LCD display with a 60 frames per second refresh rate, provides for smooth viewing. The Electronic viewfinder (EVF) saves power and allows for easier framing of your images when shooting under very bright daylight conditions.
The High-Speed Preview function allows you to immediately view the entire content of your memory card - playing back your captured images at a speed of 10 fps making it easy to retrieve the image you want. Thanks to the high-resolution of the LCD, users can display, and clearly view up to 100 thumbnail images simultaneously in a 10 x 10 array, so you can quickly find and select specific photos to view or print.

I'm an amateur with a camera. In fact, I've never owned anything other than a simple instamatic style camera. While the S8100fd does have auto focus, the other features are easy to set and use. Even if I have a problem initially, it's easy to figure out with just a little experimenting. I still don't understand all the settings and how they affect the photo, but I'm learning. There are a couple of features that I would like to have though. The option to take tin-type style photos and being able to zoom while shooting a video. If either of these can be done and I just don't know how, please someone give me some tips. I would still definitely recommend this camera and have a couple of times already.

I have used camera for indoor photos and the auto flash does a great job on all conditions. Have taken photos of eagles with 18x zoom and photos come out as well as with my Cannon digetal rebel.
Am very pleased with the camera as the size is very comfortable to carry and use and the price is very good.
The only thing I would like to see better is the cover for the batterys, it is some what loose and not as firm as I would like to see.

Before a trip to Djuma Game Reserve (adjacent to Kruger, no fence between) I was planning to take my Nikon 35mm w/big zoom lens. After 10 minutes photographing birds, etc, in my front yard, decided to take the Fuji, leave the Nikon at home. I used it at Djuma on a small shoulder stock. That plus the IS made for very sharp hand held photos. Optical viewfinder is a huge plus for wildlife.

Very light and easy camera.
All the menus are clear and you can see on the screen directly what you are selecting.
main functions are very fast a direct to be selected.
The 18x optical zoom is terrific!
Very good also for making movies.
My main use is for holidays and fun and this camera has everything I need and more...
The only remark is about a little long lag time between one shoot and the other.

The manual is reasonable good. The camera performs well, great shots taken of sport event and practiced with night shots of the moon. With correct setting a great photo.
Action photo’s also good. Photo’s taken of the garden and birds also very good. Can not wait to use it in the Kruger National Park (South Africa) with a big lion in the lens.
The long-zoom is very special. I often take a break into nature and now I can take that far away shot. Shots are clear and the image stabilizer is a great help.
The display screen is a problem in bright sun light, it reflects too much and it is difficult to use without covering it from the sun. A “MAT” finish that is not so shiny would have been better. This is my only problem with the camera.

I have owned this camera for only two weeks but am I impressed. This is my first digital camera after years of shooting film. I am not a camera buff but I use a camera at events such as concerts, sporting events and mostly vacations. I went to the NHRA Summer Nationals this weekend and got great shots of cars at high speed in the sports mode. I have also used the portrait,macro and landscape mode just to see the results and I was pleased with all of them. Pictures are sharp and the color is great. I also shot in the video mode at the race and it was amazing.In the Auto mode I took several shots in differant settings and the results were great. I know it has only been two weeks but as a person who is not comfortable with alot of tweeking to get results this camera is the answer for me. Great job by Fuji for those of us who really need a point and shoot.
