Comments about Onkyo TX-SR806B THX Ultra2 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black):
This unit was purchased to replace our aging Kenwood Home Theater System.
Out of the box, the set up was a bit more complicated than what I had anticipated. Additionally the unit was not compatible with some of our audio components already in place. That said, once the set up was complete the end result was nothing short of amazing. The THX Ultra facilities and Audyssey MultEQ are impressive. Connect to a quality speaker set and powered subwoofer and you will not be disappointed.
Every upgrade, even if successful, has its down side. Be prepared for a bulky, somewhat heavy unit. Make sure that your stand or cabinet will handle the size. Also, she runs hot. If you use an enclosed audio cabinet be prepared to add a cooling fan.
In terms of functionality, the Zone 2 function is very versatile but a bit unwieldy. An additional set of speaker terminals with a simple A/B switch would have been very useful. But in fairness, that may be a bit old school for this type of system.
For the price one would expect the unit to be equipped with an auxiliary AC outlet to facilitate component switching.
Overall this has been an excellent upgrade. If you're like me and haven't bought new A/V equipment for a while, you gonna love this!

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR806B THX Ultra2 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black):
This receiver is being used in a small museum theater as an upgrade to the previous 2-channel stereo setup. The main source is an Apple Mac Mini, running Mini DisplayPort to HDMI for video and Toslink for audio, as well as a serial (RS-232) connection to control power, volume, etc. on the receiver.
The receiver was easy to set up and optimize thanks to the included microphone, and the ability to control the receiver using a serial connection was easy enough to get support for (you have to email Onkyo support for the serial spec and command list).
The unit is quiet, and generates a lot of heat so it has been placed outside of a cabinet.
This is probably an unusual use for a home theater receiver like this one, but it more than takes care of the needs of the museum. The sound is fantastic, even mono and stereo programs (old stuff) sound better thanks to the Pro Logic II processing. 5.1 sources bring even more depth and realism. I can't speak for audiophiles, but our staff and audiences appreciate the difference with a good receiver like this one.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR806B THX Ultra2 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black):
I am using this receiver with my old 5 speakers and the sound is great.I am going to add two more rear surround speakers and expect super result.I believe
my HD picture got much better since I installed this receiver to my 65" LCD TV with HDMI.
Installation is a bit complex but if you have a teenager to help it is nothing. The remote control could have been sturdier/nicer.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR806B THX Ultra2 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black):
I'm very pleased with this machine. I needed to add a HT system in small 14x16 room after moving into a new house, and I only wanted to spend a few thousand dollars. (I have about $30k in my audio system.) That meant going with a receiver rather than separates. I am very pleased with this receiver. It is solidly built, has plenty of features and plenty of power. It plays loud and clean. The Audessy speaker setup and equalization is a great feature. It is very configurable. The menus are very intuitive - I don't need to keep the manual by the couch. And I especially like the way it automatically senses the program material and gives me the appropriate audio and video settings without me having to do anything.
There are only 2 things it lacks:
1. A switched 110V outlet on the back
2. A digital output to Zone 2 (it is analog only)
But I LOVE the Zone 2. I never knew I needed it until I had it. The unit has separate speaker outputs for Zone 2 that use channels 6&7, or I can send a stereo source output to the preamp in my main system. The bottom line is that I effectively have 2 systems - The kids can watch a movie, TV or game in full 5.1 sound in the TV room while the adults listen to music from the CD, radio, or cable box in the living room. That's a GREAT feature and very useful.
Overall I am very pleased and think this unit is a tremendous bargain.
BTW, I bought a Harmony One remote to control this and everything else and it works great. My wife loves it! She presses one button and between the remote and receiver, everything is setup perfectly. It completely shields the user from the complexity of the system. It's almost like magic.
And B&H Photo is the best. I have bought many times from them over the years and have always been satisfied. They usually have the best price of all the online retailers, and even when they don't I will buy from them if they are within 20% of the others. It's worth it to know that the item is in stock if they say it is, will ship quickly (I ordered this unit at 11pm and it shipped at 10am the next morning), and that someone will answer the phone if I need to call. I had a question about this order, I got right through and the CSR had the answer to my question.
Both the unit and BH get 5 stars on this one.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR806B THX Ultra2 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black):
This receiver is incredible - steady power for seven speakers, controls many other components natively.
Extremely easy to set up and calibrate with included microphone. All inputs are clearly marked and several of the inputs have default functions that make setup a no-brainer.
On (TV) screen set up; also onscreen volume feedback regardless of component controlled.
I was never able to control my Samsung 52" LCD or my Sony 5 disc DVD player, so I bought a different remote.

5.1 Surround Audio/Video Receiver with powered JBL Sub
Secondary Audio Zone Pre-Out.
Great feature is the set the turn-on volume. sounds simple, but it keeps you from blowing your ears off a 5:30AM on power-up
The automated room EQ with included microphone is easy to use and does a tremendous job optimizing the system to your room acoustics. It also optimizes time domain settings. reflectivity, room size etc. It honestly sounds like I upgraded my speakers in addition to the AV Receiver.
