With its continued excellence in sound reproduction, Onkyo has once again created a powerful, very versatile stereo receiver for the home theater enthusiast. The TX-8555 Stereo Receiver offers superb functionality and dual-room capability that will be hard to match. Onkyo exclusives like Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT), Discrete Output Stage Circuitry, Massive Power Transformer, and Heavy-Duty Extruded Heat Sink offer the cleanest signal on the market. Most of the receiver's audio processing is handled automatically, with little intervention on your part. However, it is so advanced; its discrete output reproduces music with unmatched sonic clarity and dynamic power.
With High-Current, Low-Impedance Drive capability, 2 x 100W amplification, 20Hz - 20KHz frequency response, and a vibration-resistant chassis, this receiver is capable of delivering breathtaking stereo sound. It features XM/Sirius satellite radio capability, 4-sets of A/V inputs, 2-sets of audio inputs/outputs, Zone 2 output, individual treble, bass, and balance controls, Remote Interactive (RI) port, A/B speaker switching, banana plug speaker posts, and an AM/FM tuner. Because of the high efficiency of its design, this receiver produces exceptional sound quality, and clarity in every audible detail.

This receiver should really be an integrated amplifier. The tuner has no negative effect on the sound quality when listening to cd/dvd....which is stellar for the money. Binding posts are a step up from the spring-loaded clips on other mass-market receivers. The pre-out makes it easy to go to external power amps in the future, thereby using the receiver as a pre-amp/tuner. The Direct and Pure Audio modes proclaim that Onkyo still places emphasis on listening to music.

This is a fair 2 channel receiver It appears that the quality of sterio receivers to day in no way compare to the receivers of 15-25 years ago. I was looking to replace my ole 25 year old Sanyo 35 watts per channel of which the speakers were periodically droping out and developing static but otherwise had a gread sound and depth of volumn. After much rsearching on line I wound up settling on the Onkyo TX-8555 receiver. After I received the receiverI noticed that the knobs were very cheap plastic, no way near the quality of my old receiver. After hooking up the receiver it too a while to get it working only because even though this receiver is suppose to be much more powerful then my old receiver, I had to turn the volumn way up to get sound out out of my 8" bookshelf speaker. I also noticed that in order to get deep depth of volumn sound out of the unit the volumn had to turned way up. Otherwise on low volumn the wound was flat. Also I noticed that to change the base, treble and balance, you have to turn the know almost all the way left or right. This receiver has a subwoofer port which may help boost the base output in low volumn which I may try. Another thing was that the antenna provided with the unit was nothing more that a plastic coaxial plut with a piece of real thin wire. The sound is very clear but I am a little disapointed in the receiver.

Comments about Onkyo TX-8555 2-Channel Stereo Receiver (Black):
Nice receiver, lots of input jacks, powerful, clean sound, connectors that securely hold speaker wires (which had been a problem with the old Mitsubishi receiver it replaces). Includes a much-appreciated hook-up for a turntable, unlike newer models. Lacks a USB port or other jack on the front to connect an iPod, so one must dedicate a pair of RCA jacks in back or opt for a ridiculously expensive docking port with lots of unwanted (and according to reviews, poorly functioning) features. Haven't used the remote yet, so no comments on that.

I bought this for my mother-in-law. She had a 15year old system which finally broke. Needed a system that has a A and B switch and plays am fm channels. Easy to use and great sound quality even thought she has old speakers.

Comments about Onkyo TX-8555 2-Channel Stereo Receiver (Black):
Bought this receiver and the Onkyo DS-A3 iPod dock as they are designed to work together with on-screen (TV) display. Has some basic video channeling capability along with the audio, but it is not intended for us as a home theater system. There are no HDMI, component or S-video jacks, only the basic composite ones. It has plenty of wattage for good sound and lots of features that I will probably never need. Good receiver for the money.

Using this to power both a study and outside pair of speakers. Has a good number of inputs and station presets. Clean layout although labels are small and hard to read. The volume control feels a bit cheap and unsubstantial.

This receiver is being used in a home for playing the radio (AM/FM) and CD's, not for home theater purposes. It is great for hooking up XM or Sirius radio, too. Sound is excellent, box is not too bulky like other brands. Overall the value for the price paid is excellent.

I used this with a splitter to run 6-8 speakers in our coffee shop and it works great.
The only thing that seems silly is that there's no general aux function, or MP3 player function. So we use Cable/Sattelitte selection for this purpose.

Comments about Onkyo TX-8555 2-Channel Stereo Receiver (Black):
I only needed this to power one set of stereo speakers, which it does just fine. It has more capabilities than I'm using at this time. Maybe someday I'll use more of them. I was happy not to have to spend more for one with even more things on it that I wouldn't use. Since I've only just got it, I can't speak on the long term reliability. I use a powered FM antennae that boosts the signal because of where we live.

Used for Phono, Tuner, CD and computer (iTunes).
Unit sounds great with a couple of JBL S36's. Also, Bass, Treble and Balance knobs makes for easy controls.
Highly recommend!
