Comments about Denon DJ DN-HS5500 DJ Media Player Turntable and Controller with Direct-Drive Platter:
I use this turntable to DJ for a hip-hop group. I love it because I can put all my tracks and scratch sounds on a USB drive, and play the beats on the "left" table and scratch on the "right" table, using it's dual table feature. I normally use vinyl, but when traveling to a show via airplane, this is what I use. It fits perfectly into a carry-on size roller bag, and even leaves room for cords, headphones, and a change of clothes. Throw my mixer in a backpack and bam, no checked-in luggage to worry about! The spinning platter feels great, and the option to use a 45 record is dope. The only bad thing is the occasional cue slippage on the platter, which Denon has still not corrected with any firmware updates. Sadly, I find myself relying on the very small digital cue marker on the display screen instead of being able to rely on any cue stickers I put on the platter. I'm still hoping Denon will correct this issue with a future update.

I've wanted to get back into DJing for years. After "losing" my equipment along with all my vinyl, I figured my DJing days were over. Then I discovered Media Player Turntables and decided on the Denon DN-HS5500 because I trust the name (having had Denon products in the past) and because this is TWO players in one! I also have a CD Mixer of which I connect the Denon to and it works GREAT! This media player is absolutely worth the price. You MUST purchase this item from B&H! They have the LOWEST PRICE around! There are too many great things to say about this player. Just get it! You will not be disappointed. Anyone who complains about this player needs their head examined. This is the next best thing to two turntables. Just think, no need to tug around records or CDs, just the music on your external hard drive! By no means is this perfect, but it's darn close!

Comments about Denon DJ DN-HS5500 DJ Media Player Turntable and Controller with Direct-Drive Platter:
I had the DN-3500 for about 1 year and I'm a Denon fan, great devices and mixers. As for the DN-HS5500 it's an impressive device and holds its own within the mobile DJ world. For positives, the sound quality is great along with the FX. Going from one turntable to another is fairly simple and can be done on the fly. Looping is nice and easy to manipulate and to create a perfect loop easy to cut added sound. The Denon DJ manager software runs well but I use Tractor Pro so I didn't get to deep in to the new software. Also the HS5500 doesn't run as hot as the DN-3500's. As for the negatives, bigger platter would have been nice. The device comes with no built-in hard drive which is an option you have to install yourself. I would have liked to see options to install a CD-ROM drive but if you buy the HS5500CD its 300 to 500.00 + more than the HS5500. Also to work Serato, Torq, Tractor etc. You have to set the device as a MIDI device instead of a turntable since there is no CD_ROM you can use to insert software CD. All in all it's still a solid device I'm going to hunt down an option to see if I can upgrade it myself to a HS5500CD. This device isnt for the basic beginner DJ but if thats the case take the time to learn the device before giving up,thanks for your time.

Comments about Denon DJ DN-HS5500 DJ Media Player Turntable and Controller with Direct-Drive Platter:
I bought to the DN-HS5500 to add onto 2 vinyl decks, DJM-600, Serato Scratch-Live, and Laptop... But also, to use as a more portable alternative with the mixer alone.
Since it's a "dual-deck" design... Put this together with a PMC-06 or Xone:22 mixer, and a couple of flight cases, it's a perfect two-piece setup for newcomers to DJ'ing, or for an experienced musician who wants an quick way to gear up for small events that need quick setup, or have limited space.
I bought this version, with no internal drive, so I could install an 80GB drive I had laying around. But (if you look in the right places) you can easily find the drive carrier, and a 160GB drive for less than eighty dollars shipped.
Pros:
- Moving platter gives a very "real" feel
- Some built-in effects, so it's easily coupled with a no-frills mixer without losing the extra flexibility
- Very intuitive, you only really need the manual to look up some of the more obscure functions, and setup options
- Buttons are well laid out, putting the most used buttons closer to your hands, and less used buttons further away and clustered together
- 33/45 selectable deck speed gives the option for a much more realistic feel for the size of the platter
- USB for plugging in external media, or a keyboard. Allows quick access to new music on a thumb drive, or keyboard shortcuts (or both if you add in a USB hub)
- Seems reasonably durable. However I do use flight cases, and I'm very careful to not bash on my equipment
Cons:
- VBR files. While the deck DOES play vbr files, you cannot use the FF/RW scan buttons to quickly skip through the track. You will simply see "VBR" in the lower portion of the display, and the track will continue to play.
- MS Windows only software. While the included software isn't technically necessary, you will want to use it as it provides one important function... It tells you if your MP3s are compatible with the device and if they're not, WHY they're not. Luckily for me, I have a Windows Boot Camp partition... If you're on non-windows machine, you'll have to deal with loading the deck and then having it tell you how many incompatible files you have, but NOT telling you which ones or why.
- Takes longer at bootup, or when plugging in new media, to create/read the required database than I'd like.
- The display is a little limited. It would be nice to have a basic waveform while the track is playing. It would also be nice to see more info about the track BEFORE you select it (track length, BPM, etc...). It seems like Denon decided on a larger font for browsing tracks, and it took up the space that might have been used for extended track info during the search. I would have preferred they let the user decide via a setup option
Overall:
I'm happy with the purchase, and would have no problem recommending it to someone wanting to get into DJ'ing, or an experienced DJ (as long as it fit their need).

This is a nice solid product.I use both layers all night and never had a problem other than the "cue slip" problem.Product was discontinued, but this is the time to get them at a much cheaper price.Just stay away from the booze when using both layers, things can get tricky.

I've been in the Pro DJ game for 20 years and have been a Denon user since 93 when the 2700F came out. Since then I've owned ever Denon CD Mixer to come out. But this thing is a true Monster that crushes anything Pioneer has put out. The possibilities are endless. 2 Decks in one can use Ipod, USB Drives, Serato to a laptop or the optional CD and Hard drives. I can't see anything competing with this for a while.
