The Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 Backpack (Gray/Black) is a backpack that carries and protects a Pro digital or film SLR with a grip and a lens up to 8.0" attached, additional lenses, a flash, accessories and a laptop. The backpack has a lower section that is a completely foam-padded camera bag compartment and an upper section that functions like a traditional backpack to hold a light jacket, lunch or other personal items. A separate, completely foam-padded compartment provides quick access to a laptop (such as an Apple 17" PowerBook G4 and other laptops up to 15 1/2 x 11 x 2.0") without disturbing photo gear.
The 5550 main compartment features double zipper pulls that provide quick access to photo gear while a weather flap and quick-release buckles provide security and weather protection. Inside, foam pillars support the camera with lens attached, ready for action, while adjustable, foam-padded dividers protect other equipment. There is a front pocket that features the Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify which memory cards and batteries are available. A Windowpane-Mesh pocket organizes filters, cables and other accessories. The foam-padded lower camera compartment has a weather flap and quick-release buckle for security and weather protection.
The 5550 has two mesh pockets on the sides, which provide quick access to accessories and water bottles. The comfortable, foam-padded backpack harness with sternum strap is contoured to distribute the weight of the camera gear across the shoulders and features a padded waist belt to help distribute the weight of the pack. Two lash tabs on the bottom of the backpack can accommodate a compact tripod (requires Model S-113 accessory straps). It features the S.A.S. (Strap Accessory System) attachment with points for customizing the bags with optional accessories and the M.A.S. (Modular Accessory System) attachment slots allow you to add optional accessories.

I have an Adventure 7, but wanted something to carry a laptop with my camera gear, so I ordered the 10 from B&H - thinking the 9 was too small for my needs.
The Adventure 10 is enormous. I could easily fit a Velocity 5 in the top compartment. It ended up being much larger than I thought - actually larger than my normal luggage... But it took all of my camera equipment and a 15" MacBook Pro with room to spare!
It is comfortable to wear and still balanced enough to sling over 1 shoulder.

I often find myself stuck between choosing, a camera bag with lots of room for gear but little for anything else or; my internal frame backpack that has plenty of room but so much that all my gear gets tossed around and lost in it's void. Then I got the Adventure 10. This is perfect for grabbing the essential camera gear,(one body, a couple lenses and an assortment of filters) while the storage compartment gives you room for an extra jacket, food, hat, gloves, food, maps and did I mention food. The side compartments give you a place for extra water and tripod storage. This is the perfect pack for a long day in the mountains or put your laptop in the storage area (built in) and take it on the plane to your next shoot. To sum it up, it's the perfect balance of camera/all purpose pack.

Comments about Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 Backpack (Gray/Black):
I purchased this pack to be able to carry my gear and 5 days worth of clothes for a trip over seas. I used it as a carry on and it fit perfectly into the overhead bins with no problem. The gear storage area was nice and the Camera and Lenses fit in very nicely but the pockets are very small in the gear area. The top Pocket is also to small and there is no way I could fit more than 2 days worth f cloths in it. I think if there would have been more little pockets on the out side for small storage it would have been nice. There really is only 2 pockets that are useable. The Pack does fit nice and would be a great day pack but other than that it was to small for me.

The pack is awesome! I fit two Nikon prosumer bodies, two Nikon speed lights, four lenses and an array of cords, cards, etc comfortably. I do have to say that I had to exchange my first one because the laptop compartment zipper blew out the second day I had it. The top compartment is Super handy but not quite so spacious as it might seem, I fit a pair of shoes and two changes of clothes, with personal hygiene and that was a tight fit. Over all I love it tho!

Got the bag to take all my gear. The longer size fits my torso better. Some weight actually sits on the waist belt. Others that keep to the airline size put the waist belt around my belly. That's plain silly. I'm about 6'1". Do not fully stuff the top section though, as it will not fit in the overhead compartment on a plane. Otherwise you should be fine, according to how they advertise it. I'll be taking my first trip with it soon.
Slightly worried about depth of bag. Some camera storage is sacrificed for the computer compartment. Flashes can't stand "on end" as often shown in the pics. Especially a 580 EXII. Way too big of a flash. Lay it down and it's fine, but that's not really efficient.
I'm coming from a two bag system so this will take some getting used to.

Comments about Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 Backpack (Gray/Black):
This is a very big bag. I got it so that when I was traveling by plane, I wouldn't have to carry 2 or 3 separate bags through the airport. I was able to put my laptop and all of my camera gear in it, as well as the regular things I would carry in a carry on bag. It is good for this purpose, but once you are at your destination you will not want to carry it around with you because it is so big. The materials and construction of this bag are all excellent. The water proof zipper on the side laptop compartment is a very nice touch. You can add extras to the backpack straps and to the side of the bag to carry things like memory cards, batteries and extra lenses, etc... Overall, a very nice, well built bag, but it is Very Big. If size is not an issue, or if what you want is a large bag to carry everything, then this is the bag for you.

Comments about Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 Backpack (Gray/Black):
Great bag. Thought too big when first bought it, but I can carry a good portion of my kit with me at all times. I can very easily carry my Canon 40D with grip and 24-70mm L lens with hood attached in the ready, plus my 430EX, 28-135mm IS, 70-200mm f/2.8 L, and Sigma 10-20mm. The flap system works great as well. Clear storage is great to see where filters and flash cables are. Spacious top part as well. Can carry everything from school books to journalism materials to if you pack it right, a change of clothes for a stay over. Easily fit my laptop in as well...plenty of room to spare. For the professional that wants to be ready for the end of the world to happen, or just going from job to job, this backpack is great. Thought it was WAY too big when i first got it in the mail, but decided to keep it and not for the Adventure 9. Very glad I stayed with the Adventure 10.

High end, huge, just what I needed, able to carry a d2x, sb-800, 17-55 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 60 2.8 macro, and the 70-200 vr 2.8. in addition to extra batteries, memory cards, that’s just in the camera area, also have a 17" hp desktop replacement laptop, external hard drives, rain gear, water bottle, everything one would need on a trip hike, etc. It's very comfortable on the back, very well padded; the equipment pads are well padded but hold there shape very well. Have used it on day to day shoots, as well as one model shoot and a wedding. Just fantastic

This bag is perfect for air travel. It is carry on compatible, and large enough to carry all my equiptment and some extras. I carry a Canon 5D, 24-70mm 2.8L, 70-200mm 2.8L, 50mm 1.4, 15mm 2.8 fisheye, flash, my MacBook, and fruit, trail mix, a few books, and a sweater. Equiptment is a bit hard to access while on site, but I use a shoulder bag as well, when shooting, for the Camera and the lens i am using at the time.
