I have an EX and tried the Manfroto first and then the Libec did not even fit. This is better than the Manfroto, but it is still not great. I have decided the problem is the lens, and no matter how good the zoom control is, it still will not be good enough to do a nicely feathered slow zoom without a jerk at the beginning. I plan on returning this and finding an inexpensive 1/2" lens that I can use with the adapter ring that came with the camera.

I changed cameras from a Sony with LANC control to a Sony EX3 that is more limited in that respect. The EX3 is a nice controller with good zoom speed but I miss the tally light that the VZRock had. Not a Varizoom issue but a capability that Sony didn't provide for.

I used this with the EX-1 and, while appreciate the build quality, was a bit upset to see that the mounting bracket and the screw/threads are too shallow it fit my tripod arm(vinten 3?) I am only able to get the screws around maybe 2 threads before it gets too tight on the padded handle. Because there is no rubber/pad on the underside i can't mount directly to metal arm, becasue then it would be plastic on metal and not able to be secured adequately. I am retuning it for the Libec that i was fortunate to use this past weekend. It has a different mounting mechanism that allows it to be mounted on metal part of arm because it has rubber contact points.

Nice smooth zooms!!! Just be careful not to tighten to tight to your tripod arm or shoulder support arm. The back piece is made out of plastic and will break. I wound up [...] buying a metal replacement.
