The TAPE 2 PC from Ion is a high-quality dual cassette deck that allows you to easily convert your favorite tapes to MP3 files for use with your personal media player. Simply connect the TAPE 2 PC to your Mac or Windows computer via USB, and use the included software to convert the tape.
The TAPE 2 PC can also be used as a standard cassette deck in your home entertainment system. Use the included RCA cables to connect to your stereo system for listening in your living room, den, or bedroom.
- Tape to MP3
- The TAPE 2 PC uses a standard USB 1.1 connection to connect to your Mac or PC to convert your favorite tapes into MP3 music files.
- EZ Tape Converter 2 for PC Software
- The EZTC2 software allows Windows users to convert their tapes quickly, and also includes Gracenote MusicID technology to automatically retrieve album, artist, and song information. 1
- EZ Audio Converter for Mac Software
- The EZAC software allows Mac users to convert their tapes easily. The software also lets you enter track information. 2
- Home Stereo
- Use the included stereo RCA cable to use the TAPE 2 PC with your home stereo system.
- Dual Cassette Deck
- The TAPE 2 PC features two cassette decks. Both can be used for playback, and Deck B may also be used for recording, great for dubbing tapes, or recording external sources to tape.
- Tape Type Selector
- The Metal/CrO2 selector provides optimal playback, depending on the type of cassette tape used.
- Display
- The front-panel display shows audio meters and lets you know the record and dubbing status. A tape counter is also provided.

I was excited at first to receive the product and find how easy it was to use. Set up was plug and play and getting songs from tapes to an MP3 was fast and painless however the sound quality is NOT good. I was disappointed to hear all of the static and artifact that takes away from the sound. After repeating the upload process several times using several different tapes I concluded that this device is unable to produce a decent quality MP3 from the tapes.

I am using this converter to transfer tapes to mp3 on iTunes. The player is basic and easy to set up. The software is very basic. You still need software capable of cleaning up the quality of recording if your tapes are full of noise.

I am plesed to be invited for comments, to be able to air my views about this product. I received everything in good order, thanks. The recorder/player works OK (sofar; I have not run it much)but the softwear does not function at all! I can hear the player in the computer until I plug in the USB connector. Then I hear only distorted noise. I set everything on my PC (Vista) as instructed, checking it several times, to no avail! When I pull out the USB plug, I can hear the tape playing again. I wonder, what I did wrong, if anything. Perhaps someone can help me? If it ever works, I'll be able to give u a better comment, that I am willing to do.

I have started to convert tapes to my iTunes which will convert to aiff as well. I noticed that the right cassette player converted the cassette from the 1980's a lot better. Needless to say, I will be able to sweeten the audio in post. I have been pleased so far with the conversion process.

I have NUMEROUS "tapes" dating back MANY decades, in fact, MANY more than I wish had passed. This instrument allows me to be able to RECORD those tapes, and play them, in my vehicle, on my computer(s), and on ANY MP3 player, such that I so desire to do. Unless you have only 1 or 2 tapes, which I sincerely doubt, as most of us have many DOZENS, this is an indispensible object to be without! YOU (and "I") paid MANY HUNDREDS of dollars to own this/said music, yet NOW, it can't (or won't) be played or heard. You can't find a BETTER DEAL than to order this item right NOW, and upon receipt, CONVERT all of your non-playing and never listened to favorite tunes into some that you CAN still enjoy. If you find it/such to be cheaper elsewhere, go for it - [...] ENJOY YOUR LISTENING ! Heck, I am still recording many of MY old tapes and music!

As I hoped, it was very easy to set up and get going. I wish the software had a beginner mode, where I could have a couple choices as to the type of recording I was importing. Instead, I had to play with the different settings to get good quality that didn't produce too large of a file.
However, once I get used to it, it's probably better to have more choices for customization and control.

My TAPE 2 PC USB cassette-MP3 converter has allowed me to expand my music library quite inexpensively.Since most music stores sell cassettes at $1.00,I have purchased the cassette of many of my favorite musicians to convert into MP3.I also use it to edit cassettes from live performances I have produced at the Museum of the City and from fabulous classical radio concerts.

This is the second ION conversion component I've purchased, the previous one being their LP2PC unit. Just like the turntable, their cassette tape conversion system works like a charm. I used this to start to transfer my large cassette collection to my computer(iMac). I didn't use the enclosed software, but instead used Ableton Live. I had no problem just hooking it up and going. The quality of the recording seemed fine, cassettes are just cassettes after all. The overall quality of the unit seems better than I expected in its price range. Hey, the heyday of the cassette is long since past.

I have an extensive cassette collection that I was hoping to convert to digital for my new ipod. The Ion Tape 2 PC sounded like the answer to my needs, and a way to save quite a bit of money by transferring my original tapes.However, it didn't deliver what it promised. The conversion process was tedious = each track must be played individually - no high speed dubbing. I'd had been willing to spend the time if the sound quality after conversion was acceptable. However, the songs once converted, to the ipod format were absolutely terrible. I purchased this deck to allow me to transfer a variety of old cassettes to digi via USB. The deck itself is decent and functioned fine. The digitizing software is a bit clunky and frankly wouldn't work on my Mac. I went through an entire dub session and the files wouldn't show up in iTunes for some reason. So, frustrated, I bagged it and used another piece of software to record the cassette contents to my machine. I'll keep using the deck, but the software is not worthy.

The painful truth is that converting cassettes to MP3s is not easy. Even if you have a cassette deck with an auxiliary out, there are few guarantees that it will work with your computer's auxiliary input. But the Tape 2 USB Converter by ION uses a USB codec, which is essentially universal. It comes with a CD-ROM containing Easy Converter software (which is a little too elementary) and Audacity (which is strange that it needs to be a CD, seeing how it is freeware). But overall, this is a very good product that produces good quality, and as far as converting cassettes to MP3s, no one really has any room to complain.

This converter works very well in converting one's "old school" audio cassette tapes to files for iTunes. By the way, this unit also interfaces fine with Macs and the instruction manual covers the installation process for both types of computer operating systems. Do not know why ION chose to make this a dubbing deck, as the purpose would seem to be turning old cassettes into digital files. Who would want to make a cassette dub of a cassette one is trying to get rid of?
Deck works well as an analog unit using the RCA plugs, but still cannot get the USB output to talk to my Mac (Dual-core Intel Xeon OS 10.5.8).
The EZ converter seems useless if you have Audacity or GarageBand.
