Just bought this reader after realizing my MacBook Pro didn't have a SD reader. This works fabulously with my Express Card 34 Reader. The reader sits flush with my laptop so I can leave it in. Have only used it once so far but I was able to view images instantaneously and transferring approx 350 images from a Canon DSLR camera SD card took about 30 seconds. Just pop the reader in, look for the icon on the screen, double click and there are your images. No drivers or cables. Only thing is you do need an adaptor with some of the other memory cards like the Memory Pro Duo for the Sony Cybershot point and shoot camera. Haven't used it with the adaptor yet but I don't foresee any issues. Most of the reviews I've seen of this product have been good and I agree with them. Highly recommend it!

As far as I kow, it's the only product that connects memory cards effectively to the now 'estranged' ExpressCard slot on Macbooks. Every time you put a card in mine it pops out, then when you pop it back in, just push on rim of express card only and both cards will stay in and work. It fits extremely well to the body of the macbook. I've downloaded HD video faster than usb cable alone.
in short very effective, with only mildly annoying popouts.

Comments about Sonnet File Mover Multimedia Memory Card Reader & Writer - ExpressCard/34:
You need to know that the Sonnet 21 in 1 express card adapter runs on the USB bus therefore the transfer speed will only be about 20MB/sec in the real world. If your read a review here and it says this card is fast you have to wonder if they know what fast is. I've tested two of these 21 in 1 cards with the Aja system test program - never seen anything over 20MB/sec and usually it's less than that. Sonnet has a pro version of this card that runs on the PCIe bus - which is much faster for about $20 more - the SDXC UHS-I Pro Reader/Writer. If you're dealing with video and photo files you need to kiss USB goodbye. It's just too slow.
Both Sonnet SD adapters (USB & PCIe) work fine - no drivers needed - insert the SD card into the adapter, then insert into the MBP or laptop. I give it 3 stars only because it's USB2 but it works just fine on my Macbook Pro 17in 2010.

I own a very wonderful laptop that doesn't have a built in card reader and this year I upgraded my camera and memory cards so I needed a new card reader. I realized recently my laptop has an ExpressCard slot I could use a card reader in. I wanted so much to have a built in card reader, something my children couldn't accidentally unplug. After a lot of research and comparison shopping I realized this product was exactly what I needed. This product has worked seamlessly. I plugged it into my laptop then put in my SDHC card, oh my goodness it worked and I am a very happy photographer. I highly recommend this product to anyone who owns a MacBook Pro and need a card reader.

This reader fits perfectly in my MacBook Pro's ExpressCard slot, and is a great addition to the machine. It fits flush and seems to be snug without risk of falling out.
I've only used it for an SD card so far, but it works perfectly and seems reliable so far. I would like an LED activity indicator on the reader itself, but that's not a huge omission.
Overall, does what it advertises, fits well, and a good price!

Glad to finally simply have a reader sitting in my express slot then worrying about keeping up with a card reader all the time.
I was worried I would get kernel panics putting it in & removing it on the fly like I do with eSata cards, but I haven't had one yet and don't think that I will.

Computer running VIsta recognized the card without having to use device manager. Very fast downloads, 50% or more faster than USB.

Overall I think this little card is a great idea. It fits flush within the express slot so you don't have to keep taking it in and out. It's compatible with a wide range of cards. My issue has been that the SD cards I use apparently fit so tightly within the reader that it is impossible to insert or eject cards without first taking the reader of of the computer. Just a few extra micron space in the insertion slot would have made all the difference.

I think this Express Card will work fine.
My concern is that it's a little tight when you insert the SD card.
I'm afraid it might rip the contact points in time.

Very easy to use, much faster then trying to hook up a USB cable to my Leica M9. Learned this trick from a photo pro. Works great.

This unit sits flush with the express card slot in your MacBook pro and will read a multitude of flash formats all without having to fumble looking for a traditional USB version.
One bummer is that it doesn't seem to work with the eye-fi cards.

I have a 17" MacBook Pro and this model includes the ExpressCard/34 slot instead of the SD reader slot. I don't expect I'll ever need the ExpressCard, and I frequently need an SD reader, but this isn't exactly a build-to-order choice. This card reader is in my view, an permanent adapter. I appreciate that it remains flush in the side of the notebook (except when there is an SD card in the adapter). The performance is just okay- it seems that it is subject to random slow-downs, but they aren't frequent or lengthy. There are no drivers or configuration hassles on the Mac. Certainly worth the price.

This is a solid quality product that works great. Before I purchased this card, I was using the USB connection directly to the camera. This card transfers the pictures much quicker and works seamlessly like any other external drive.
I have not had problems with this card, but have experienced customer support from Sonnet Technologies on another ExpressCard/34. Their tech support is fast and extremely helpful. I highly recommend this product AND this company.

I use it to read the SD card from my camera. I leave it plugged into my laptop and it also required no drivers at all when I plugged it in. When I slide the SD card in the pictures pop right up on the screen. Very quick response reading the contents of the card. So far it's working just great for what I need. Haven't experienced anything not so great yet.

Haven't had this very long, but it works flawlessly so far on my Macbook Pro. After two bad experiences with products (from overseas suppliers) that were supposed to work with Apple Mac OS 10.4+, and didn't work at all on Snow Leopard (OS 10.5), I ordered from this domestic source that I always trust, and got one that works.

Product seeds well into a macbook pro and works really well for what I need, copying photos from SD cards. Definitely a speed bump over the USB reader I was using before and no installation was necessary.

Comments about Sonnet File Mover Multimedia Memory Card Reader & Writer - ExpressCard/34:
Nothing special here.. the product does what it should. basically plug and play.. fits flush to the side of my mac book pro when there is no card installed. When my SD card is installed, it hangs about 1/4" over the side of the laptop.
When putting the SD card in there is a possibility of pushing the card in to the card reader too hard/far, and causing the card reader to eject from the express card slot. While this is a little inconvenient you can get used to the amount of push required and eventually eliminate this problem.
Nice product, does what it should. Transfer rate is fast.
