My previous camera was a Samsung Digimax A6, which had such poor performance on its Auto setting that I had to learn a lot about basic photography stuff and stayed in manual mode. (What a shame, right?) When I needed a new camera I knew I had to have a full manual mode because I didn't want to be stuck with a bad automatic setting.
This camera is going to make me forget almost everything I know about photography. It's iAuto mode is so good 90% of the time at guessing what I mean that I sometimes forget about moving the wheel over to manual.
I mainly use it in macro mode to take pictures of yarn and knitting projects. It's nice and sharp, and I really appreciate its image stabilization since I'm too cheap to get a tripod.
The other day I tried out a few of the Scene settings-- sunset and starry night. The sunset came out phenomenal. It took me a few moments on manual to get what I was looking for-- so if you have a sunset you need a very fast picture of, you can rest easy knowing this mode will work well. Starry night lets you get long exposures, and it did just what it claimed.
My only gripe is that I can't use longer exposure times on manual-- it's limited to 60 seconds.
The lag time is not too bad, and coming from a 3 year-old camera it is definitely much better.
I really don't think you'll find a better camera at this price point.

This camera has a nasty shutter delay when using the flash, and if you try to use the camera in-doors without a flash, the photos are fairly blurry. 1 out of every 10 photos were of a decent quality. Something that I would want to keep. I was even disappointed with the quality of the outdoor shots. Very poor quality. I've used Fuji cameras in the past, and Canons, with great results. I'm returning this one, and going back to Canon.

I love it. I'm a pro photog, but this is fun to just tote around and shoot. My kids and hubs can handle it easy. We're enjoying it!

I wanted a camera that was inexpensive, reliable, and easy to use. After a few weeks of being carried around in my pocket through dirty fields and other abuse, it still works. Good photos, and I'm still using the batteries that came with it.
The buttons are on the small side, and lag time is a bit slow.

I don't know where some of the other reviewers are coming from, but I bought this camera last year on a promotion Panasonic was having.
This budget camera has full manual controls and even a manual setting. It focuses almost in complete darkness, and has a nice little video settings. I use this camera three or four times a week and the lithium batteries have last a LONG TIME. (I don't know what the other reviewers were using)
Last week I dropped it on a buddies brick walkway and although I dented the corner a little, it functions flawlessly.
I would not hesitate to recommend this camera to a friend who did not want to spend a lot of money, or just wanted a everyday carry camera that was a real camera and not a cell phone add on.
As a matter of fact today I just bought another one today :-)

This is a great little camera! I had an older version of the Lumix and loved it! It had been dropped several times, but I hated to give it a final resting. I then found this little one and it is 10 times BETTER than the old one! I love ths bigger screen, image stablization, and all the other fun little features included in this sleek little camera! I would reccomend this to all my friends and family. Big, BIG bang for your buck!

This is a very good camera when you have sufficient lights. Once the flash is on, the performance is slow.
For this price, its hard to find a camera with IS, wide angle, manual controls....and pictures

With this camera you can use in automatic mode and take really nice pictures, or you e can set up to the manual mode and use all your creativity. The 5 X optical zoom is one of the big advantages for me. The only problem so far is the flash which take a long time to charge and may make you loose the picture.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8 Digital Camera (Black):
I bought this camera for my wife that has been using her old beat up film point and shoot camera and has refused to go digital until now. I chose it because of the ease of use and the fact that it had some good reviews.
My wife (who has NO digital photography experience) was able to use and enjoy the camera immediately. The fact that the camera has actual knobs and dials to set some of the settings is great because it eliminates a lot of the busy complicated touch screen menus that many cameras have. All the menus and controls are very intuitive.
Picture quality of this camera is O.K. it takes nice looking pictures pretty accurately. The lens is fairly sharp and decent quality for the price.
All in all a good camera for the money and I would definitely buy another one if I was in the market. No buyers remorse here!

I am not very camera savvy, but this is a great camera. It's easy to use, even for the novice. Just point and shoot, with the automatic feature and use the additional options, for more control. It has a big preview screen too! So many options for this little beauty. I asked my photography student niece what she thought and after testing it, said... "great little camera for the money". Finally, asthetically it's pleasing. I got the sleek black and it's cool and professional looking.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8 Digital Camera (Black):
This is a great little camera, and for the price, really fantastic, but it has a very slow screen refresh after taking a picture. Although it is bigger than some of the other budget cameras, I like that, as it makes it easier for my older parents to use the camera. Also, the large screen is great as well. We are very happy with it, and with the picture.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8 Digital Camera (Black):
I have purchased two of these cameras as gifts to beginner photographers. It is an excellent starter camera that always delivers good results.
One reason is Panasonic's intelligent mode, which brings the proper settings together for general photography. Most beginners use nothing else. It's more sophisticated than the "green" button on competing cameras.
Also, because the camera uses two AA batteries, no charger is needed. This is a BIG deal to a lot of people.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8 Digital Camera (Black):
I needed a simple, small good performing camera for carrying around in my business case. I looked around and settled on the LZ-8, which recently won a TOP PICK from one of the digital camera review sites. It's very inexpensive (by comparison to the high end models at $200-300) and I won't feel bad if I loose it or damage it in my travels. I do use higher end DLSR and Panasonic LX-3 for more serious photography however.
The 5X zoom, and Intelligent Automatic setting is great - even figures out that you are taking a MACRO shot and sets the camera to Macro without any setting changes or adjustments. The LCD screen is one of the best at this price point. The AA batteries allow me to store the camera for months in my travel bag without the fear that it would need to be recharged before a business trip, and if it gets low on charge, I can pop in a new set of batteries without waiting for the charger to replenish.
The Shot Setting knob is easy to move, so when I take it out of the case, I have to make sure it hasn't moved off the IA setting. Pictures in extreme low light are a bit noisy, but well lit outdoors and indoor situations provide very nice pictures at a very reasonable price. The flash is a bit weak.
Overall, this is a great camera given the minimal price.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8 Digital Camera (Black):
I requested this little camera for Christmas and I am not disappointed. It doesn't do everything a bigger camera can do, but I can always carry it with me and get shots I would've otherwise missed. I love the videos it takes. There seems to be a problem with red eye, but that can usually be fixed with editing. It is limited, according to light, but I have gotten some beautiful photos of my great grandaughter. I have to practice with it to really find out all that it will do. I would buy this camera again, to use as a pocket camera.
