The monitor works right out of the box, without having to go through any laborious setup. It's big, it's beautiful, it's sharp, and the colors are spot on.
I bought this monitor because I was tired of having poor color rendition in my images, which had begun to become a real problem in my work-flow as a photographer. Now, I am worry free. This monitor captures virtually 100% of the Adobe RGB 1998 color gamut, so now I know that what I see is what I get. The huge size also allows me to see what I need to with much more freedom. I can have all those Photoshop pallets out, or Lightroom panels, and still view my image with enough resolution to catch the details without the inconveniences of smaller monitors (even my old 21" one).
It's a snap to calibrate as well, with a built-in port on the back to hook in your sensor. The monitor has a native calibration routine which immediately opens up when the sensor is connected... or you can use your own software if you prefer.
Being able to rotate the monitor vertically has it's advantages when I work on portraiture. You can make the switch while the monitor is in use too. The image on the screen immediately rotates to the appropriate orientation, without requiring any additional software changes.
One of the things I also love is the monitor's ergonomic design. NEC really thought through the balance properly. It takes almost no actual force to raise or lower the monitor on its vertical support. The support column is spring-loaded, to counter-balance its own weight. The cabling run on the rear is chaneled properly as well, so that it is neither tangled or unsightly. Digital and analog inputs are provided too, which is handy if you want to hook it up to a laptop on occasion, which I've done.
I did consider the EIZO monitor instead of this one, but the relatively small performance differences did not seem to justify the large price difference between the two.
Simply put, I love this monitor. It's completely changed the way I work, and improved my work-flow. Thanks NEC!

I owned and operated the NEC 3090WQXi 30" widescreen for less than a week before deciding to send it back. The monitor had a rust-colored cast running along the bottom and blooming out in the lower, right-hand corner. This cast persisted even after multiple calibrations. In addition, there were hot and cold spots (and some banding) in neutral gray across the screen. IOW, color was not uniform across the screen. For the amount of money I paid for this hardware, I expected better quality.[...]

Comments about NEC MultiSync 3090WQXi 30" Widescreen LCD Display with Dual Input:
I use this monitor to develop software and to do CAD work. As received there were no stuck pixels and the image is crisp, clear with very good color definition. During writing software the ability to have multiple command lines open (I mostly write system software not applications) and to be able to see clearly even small text makes this extremely useful since I can be coding in one window while monitoring the behavior of the software running in a virtual machine (VBOX) in another. A third window is showing a man page. For CAD work the extra real estate allows me to present a very complex image in total without having to continuously scroll. The monitor is able to present the image with excellent contrast and extremely fine line definition. Even the slimmest line shows clearly. I can firmly recommend this monitor to anyone.
B&H had the best price and delivery was prompt with the package received in excellent condition.

The NEC 3090WQXi 30" monitor is superior to my expectations. I am a nurd and have been reading reviews about different monitors. For its price it is for me a great investment. As I also got a new computer at the same time, I did compare it with my iMac monitor and the difference is fully up to my expectations. I calibrate it with my x-rite Colormunki and save that as my programmable colorspace. Then I have all the functions included, for example to work in sRGB when i am preparing work for the web. The color depth and the sharpness is great.

To obtain 2560 X1600 pixel resolution, a dual link DVI-I cable is necessary. For some obscure reason the display comes with only a DVI-D to DVI-D cable, which can only achieve 1600 X 1200. Details on cable capabilities are available in the Wikipedia article on DVI cables.
For MAC users, an additional problem is the inclusion of a display "target" on the accompanying CD: one presumes this is to help calibrate/adjust the display. The target is in a format that is no longer supported by OS X. Instructions on what to do with the target are absent.
So far it seems like a promising device: I'll know when the new cables come.

I have struggled with my color workflow for years. The monitor part is now over. If you are looking at more expensive monitors from other vendors, stop here. Unless you own a hospital or have other legal implications (like doing an add for Coke and they have a spectrometer over your shoulder) do not spend one penny more. This is as good as it gets.
This monitor is heavy, hot and yet perfect. Once you go to the 2650x1600 everything else looks SMALL. It is so funny how quickly you adjust and how good the colors look even at the corners of this monitor. I have the NEC color calibration package. Get it if you dont already have your own. I use lightroom and photoshop on this puppy and it is breath-taking.

I am an advanced amateur photographer. I have the new NEC calibrated and setting next to my 30 inch Samsung 305T (also calibrated). The NEC is much more accurate in colors. Even the white is whiter.
I already had a calibrator so I only had to buy the NEC software.
It is a large unit but of excellent color quality.
Having two 30 inch monitors is a treat but the NEC is the one to watch for Photoshop and Capture One.

Comments about NEC MultiSync 3090WQXi 30" Widescreen LCD Display with Dual Input:
I use it for digital, film photography and Final Cut Pro primarily. I needed something that would be good for accurate color correction and more screen real-estate so that I wouldn't have to scroll through large images as much. I tend to shoot 4x5 and stitch digital images so the extra space really does make processing a much easier task. As a Ph.D. student it's also great for having two documents up or a document and a website when you are researching.
The screen is very bright, I have it turned down to about 22% brightness which is more than enough for regular use. I enjoy the fact that you can plug your i1 directly into the monitor and it calibrates itself, no software needed. The screen does have some blooming through the top when the screen in black, but I don't notice it otherwise.
Previous to this monitor I had a 24in cinema display, also a good monitor but this takes color correction to the next level. If you are a professional in the visual arts I recommend it but if you just need a larger monitor there are other options that may be more compatible for your needs.
FYI, I have not tested Eizo or Lacie so I can't judge how this may compare but for my purposes of photography and video production it suits me very well.

Comments about NEC MultiSync 3090WQXi 30" Widescreen LCD Display with Dual Input:
I had a Samsung 305T 30" display and thought it was good. The problem was that it had too many physical failures and I ended up getting my money back. This turned out to be a good thing however because I simply love my NEC. The thing I am most impressed with is this monitors ability to colormatch. I use AdobeRGB as my colorspace and this monitor's color gamut is very close to that space as is my printer (Canon Pixma Pro 9000) and I have never seen my prints and monitor be so incredibly close to each other...scary close. I have never been able to get this close with other monitors even using a colorimeter.
The other feature of this monitor that is simply stellar is that fact it has software that allows you to control from the PC all of the settings you would change on the monitor itself (brightness, contrast, etc.). While at first this would seem to be just a nice convenience, when you pair NEC's colorimeter with this monitor, because it can "talk" to the hardware, while the colorimeter is doing it's calibration, it actually will adjust all the contrast, brightness, etc. settings automatically, so it is literally a one click operation to calibrate your monitor. For those of you who have done calibration before, you can probably relate to how much of a timesaver this is.
Although it is more expensive than the HP or Samsung, it is a long term investment as you won't be changing out monitors as often as computers and it is a stellar product.
One note on saving some money, there is a bundled version of the Spectraview II with colorimeter that comes with the monitor, but it is cheaper to buy the monitor and Spectraview II separate from the bundle.

I have been doing research for about 6 months on quality 30in monitors. It came down to the Samsung T809, LG W300H, and some type of Dell Ultrasharp. However end the end I went with the NEC model which was removed from the list of potential buys because of the high price. After recieving a defective Samsung (and realizing it had limitations I was not aware of) and having a hard time finding info, vendors, and happy buyers on the LG I decided to get the Ultrasharp. However I soon realized that for the money I could just as easily get the NEC and get some of the best monitor technology and versatility on the market. [...] B&H has a reputation and I know I wont loose sleep over a large purchase like this as I have in the past with shady vendors (whom are no longer in business).

Use: graphic design, photography, multimedia development, animation
pros: the size and resolution, the colors and clarity are amazing; easy setup; vertical pivot is sweet; very easy to adjust height and angle.
Cons: it's a little on the thick side; a high-end graphics card is needed to really get the best effect. I have a card with 512 MB memory and the max refresh is 60 Hz, but it's rated to max out at 85 Hz, which would be a bit better for motion graphics.

Comments about NEC MultiSync 3090WQXi 30" Widescreen LCD Display with Dual Input:
Great monitor, and it is very sharp indeed. Great value. Is a long-term Eizo monitor user, and I still believe those monitors are the best, but they are another $1500-2000 for a similar monitor (size and features). This is a no-nonsense professional grade monitor.
My use is primarily writing and working out of home. Thus, the real estate is great.
Observation - the monitor is not sharp right out of the box. It needs some hours before it becomes its best (in fact the image was a bit blurry but this is not unusual for this type of monitor), i.e., you need to run it in.
A disadvantage can be the number of input ports if you want to connect a number of different types of devices (DVD, game consoles etc), but again, this is a professional monitor which allows the user to comfortably spend long days in front of it reading fine detailed text.
Overall, great buy.

Moved up from a 24" monitor. Amazing how much more screen real estate there is. It is quite stunning to see this monitor. The colors are the best I've seen although you do have to turn the brightness down. Having the OSD is really nice. This was the last monitor I'm likely to buy in a very very long time. It was worth it. Simply gorgeous.

Comments about NEC MultiSync 3090WQXi 30" Widescreen LCD Display with Dual Input:
This monitor replaced a 10 yr old NEC CRT monitor, so the brand name was a plus. It also eliminates the need for a 2nd monitor -- there's plenty of room for a large open image AND Photoshop tools, or 2 web pages open side-by-side. For its size, cost and features I chose it above the Eizo 21 & 24" G series monitors. I do very detailed image manipulation & retouching in Photoshop, and so appreciate the higher 1600 x 1200 resolution available. ~18% of full brightness is sufficient to match most of my prints, and will probably extend its life (make sure your graphics card can provide the highest res). You may want to switch to a lower screen res for reading type and web surfing. Its tilt, height and rotation adjustments are smooth. The Portrait mode is fun.

I've been using the monitor for a few days and it has crisp accurate color. My spyder quickly developed a custom profile. My only concern is just how bright it is. I had to turn down the brightness and recalibrate the monitor because I work in a dimly lit room. It is like looking out a window on a sunny day.
