The Hoodman HoodEYE eyecup is a great way to prevent excessive ambient light from entering your viewfinder. By removing your camera's eyepiece and substituting the HoodEYE, you can improve your viewfinder clarity.

I do a lot of macro photography and over the years have gone through several eye cups on various cameras. Eventually for one reason or another they do wear out. I purchased a couple of cheap eye cups from other retailers and was sorely disappointed. They didn't fit well and were made of poor materials making them near useless. Finally I bit the bullet,(the Hoodman is not cheap), and gave it a try. The Hoodeye is a very well made comfortable product. It screws on making it much more unlikely to fall off, and also has its own glass eye piece to help protect your camera's eyepiece. I'm definatly going to replace my other camera's eye cups with this one. It's pricey compared to others, but well worth the price. I'd recommend it to anyone.

All the good points for this product have been already mentioned in the other reviews for the HoodEye EyeCup.
There is just one major problem/shortcoming on this product: The inability to use this product in conjunction with the Nikon DK-17C Diopters. Despite the diopter adjustment available on the D3, I still need further diopter power and have to use a DK-17C. The HoodEye cup rubber is too thick to allow the DK-17C to be inserted. So, I continue to use the Nikon DK19 Eyecup + Nikon DK-17C dipoter and prefer this combo over the HoodEye eyecup.

Comments about Hoodman HoodEYE Eyecup:
A well made little addition to any camera. For me a lifesaver. My eyes are quite deep in the head so to say , so I always have false light from aside. This Hoodman cup blocks that resulting in a much brighter image seen in the finder. Very well constructed . Once I realised I had to close the finder before I could remove the original glass in order to mount this one it was a breeze to fit. The Nikon D@x I have and possibly all ? has a blocking mechanism that prevents taking off the finder glass when the finder is not closed.

Comments about Hoodman HoodEYE Eyecup:
I bought the Nikon's one and this one.
This one is much better than the Nikon's eyecup because this one is much wider and it works also great on vertical shots without having to rotate the eyecup.
Easier to install as well.
It also feels much better when shooting and it's firm when you push it with your forehead.

I love this eyecup it helps me to focus on the subject without my eyeglasses. I can't say that there is nothing so great about it. It's a must have for my D700 and the price is reasonable, thanks B&H.

Comments about Hoodman HoodEYE Eyecup:
try switching your camera from "landscape" to "portrait" orientation for a quick shot and try moving the HoodEye from its now vertical orientation to horizontal [to fit your eye properly as it is supposed to] and there is no way you can do this fast enough for the HoodEye to work like it is supposed to.

I shoot a lot of outdoor portraits and the Hoodman eyecup cuts out the surrounding sunlight when looking through the viewfinder. It even works well when wearing glasses.

When doing Macro or in very bright light this eyecup is great, it is soft enough to be used with glasses but best results for me is it seals the eye from external light making the image and information in the viewfinder very easy and fast to read. We will have them on all our Nikons very soon.

The Adjustment allows me to use viewfinder without my glasses (trifocals). In some cases my glasses were difficult to position with the normal view finder. With the eyecup I see the entire frame clearly without my glasses.
